Our sad update — and thank you for your support.

Our “resident” dogs are all reaching that stage of life we’ve always known would come… the grey muzzles, the slower steps, the quiet changes that remind us our time with them is limited.

Today, we received heartbreaking news about Chip. At 12 years old, his lab results showed severely elevated liver and kidney enzymes—some so high they wouldn’t even register. His calcium levels were also elevated, which was highly suspicious for cancer, and he was showing signs of abdominal pain. Even with every possible intervention, his prognosis was not hopeful.

With heavy hearts, we made the decision to let him go peacefully.

Chip was a lifelong Back Roads dog—born into the rescue, adopted once, and returned—but always surrounded by love. He was one of the sweetest, most gentle and tolerant souls we’ve ever known.

A piece of us left with him today.

We will keep going, just as we always have, honoring Chippie Dee by continuing to care for the ones who need us most.

Thank you for loving him with us.

😭😭💔💔😞😞

We’ll be honest—right now, we’re just treading water.

With so much happening in our personal lives, our rescue is focused on maintaining the animals already in our care and helping where we can, when we can.

At this time, we have 13 “permanent” dogs—many of whom have been with us for years because no one else would take them. For different reasons, they were overlooked, returned, or simply never chosen.
Now, they’re all seniors… and they rely on us more than ever.

Today, we’re asking for help for one of our own.

Chip was born right here in our rescue in 2014. He was adopted once, but when it didn’t work out, he came back—and he’s been with us ever since. This place is his home.

On Saturday evening, Chip started showing signs of pain.
We’ve checked everything we can—ears, nails, gums—but nothing obvious stands out. Still, he’s been trembling, which we know can be a sign of discomfort.

And when Chip refused a treat… we knew something wasn’t right.

He does take medication for arthritis, so we hoped it might just be a tough day—but we’re not taking any chances.
He’s on his way to the vet this morning.

If you’re able to help Chip—and help us continue caring for all 13 of our senior dogs—we would be incredibly grateful.

Every share, every dollar, every bit of support truly makes a difference for dogs like Chip—who have nowhere else to go, but still deserve everything.

Thank you for standing with us.

Thanks to everyone who supports Roll Over Rolled Ice Cream and The Hound Lounge during their spay and neuter fundraiser initiatives! ❤️

Because of your generosity, we were able to neuter the adorable smoky red/blue male dog (pictured third) after a concerned neighbor reached out for help during a minit medical emergency. We also have enough funds set aside to spay the two females once they can safely be handled.

Sadly, it appears these three dogs were abandoned when their owners moved and left them behind after getting a new dog. The females are understandably wary—especially the white pittie who was found chained to a doghouse. The neighbor has been working patiently to earn their trust while caring for them, despite already having five dogs of her own.

All nearby shelters are full, and no other rescues have responded to her pleas for help. She’s doing her best to clean up someone else’s mess, but she can’t do it alone.

We’re asking for donations to help her provide food and straw bedding to keep these pups warm and fed until we can get them fully vetted. We don’t have room to tame them in but we will do our bear to help them and prevent more unwanted litters!

🛒 Prefer to order directly? We can arrange pickup from TSC in Grayson for any food or straw donations.

Dogs are not disposable. If you think they are, you have no business owning one—let alone three. 💔

Kendall’s time with us was far too short, but he knew love until his last breath.

He lost his brief but fierce battle with what appeared to be a bone marrow disorder. His immune system was attacking his red blood cells, leaving him critically anemic. At first, he responded well to high doses of prednisone and antibiotics, and for a while, we had hope. But exactly two weeks later, Kendall crashed.

Last night, he enjoyed a big homemade dinner, took his meds, and went to bed like usual. But by morning, everything had changed. He had vomited, was too weak to walk, and his heart rate had skyrocketed to 172. His breathing had become labored, and we knew it was time to let him go peacefully.

Kendall’s life before us was cruel. He came from a hoarding situation where dogs were kept in outdoor pens and beaten apart with wooden boards when fights broke out. That trauma never fully left him, but despite it all, he was the sweetest boy. The photo with his swollen eye was taken the day after we brought him home—just one of many signs that he had never received the care he deserved. But with us, that changed. He healed, he thrived, and he was happy. Until today.

Run free, Kendall Bendall Dog. You were so loved, little buddy. We wish we had more time.
