Dogs really are just like people... every one of them has their own personality, quirks, and favorites. 🐾

Some dogs are obsessed with tennis balls. Others carry around stuffed animals like prized possessions. And then there are dogs like this one, whose favorite toy is apparently... a giant corn cob. 🌽 One of our favorite parts of our job here is getting to know each dog as an individual and discovering their unique personalities and preferences.

Walking your dog shouldn't feel like a full-body workout.

If every walk involves being pulled toward squirrels, zig-zagging across the sidewalk, or constantly reminding your dog to slow down, you're not alone.

One of the biggest transformations we see in our training programs is what happens on the leash.

A calm walk isn't just about good manners. It's about connection. It's about your dog learning to check in with you, pay attention to your guidance, and move through the world as your partner instead of dragging you from one exciting thing to the next.

The dog in this video didn't wake up one day knowing how to walk this way. This is the result of consistent training, clear communication, and practice.

By the end of our training programs, our goal is for owners to feel confident taking their dogs on walks again...and for dogs to understand exactly what's being asked of them.

Because some of the best moments with our dogs happen on everyday walks. ❤️ And those moments are a lot more enjoyable when both ends of the leash are moving together.

Wow. We are incredibly grateful.

Our boarding kennels are now fully booked for the Fourth of July holiday and every weekend between now and then. We do still have some limited weekday availability, but weekend space is currently full.

We want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for your trust, your loyalty, and the referrals you continue to send our way. It is truly an honor to care for your four-legged family members, and we never take that responsibility lightly.

If you are still looking for boarding this month or for the Fourth of July holiday, don't lose hope. Cancellations do occasionally occur, and we are happy to check for openings or add your dog to our wait list. Just give us a call and we'll do our best to help.

"Wait... why are all the dogs inside?" 🤔🐾

If you've ever boarded with us, you know that's not the norm around here! Our boarding dogs typically enjoy 24/7 indoor-outdoor access to their runs, so seeing kennel rows full of dogs relaxing inside is actually pretty unusual. Most dogs choose to play and lounge outside!

The reason they are all inside now? It's nap time.

After every meal, we intentionally slow things down and give our guests time to rest and digest before heading back out to play. While the dogs would happily keep running, wrestling, and chasing friends, vigorous activity right after eating isn't the safest choice.

So for a little while each day, the kennel gets surprisingly quiet. You'll find dogs stretched out on beds, lounging in the AC, or simply watching the world go by while their stomachs settle.

It's one of those behind-the-scenes things most people never see, but it's an important part of how we care for the dogs entrusted to us.

A safe dog is a happy dog...and after nap time, the fun starts right back up again. ❤️🐶

One of the first commands we prioritize teaching every training dog is "drop."

Why? Because it can be one of the most important safety commands your dog ever learns.

Dogs explore the world with their mouths, and sometimes they pick up things they shouldn't. Whether it's a chicken bone in the kitchen or something dangerous in the yard, a reliable "drop" command can prevent injuries, emergency vet visits, and frustrating games of keep-away.

But we don't teach it by taking things away from dogs. We teach them that dropping an item leads to something positive. The goal is to build trust so your dog willingly lets go when asked, even when they're having a great time.

This reel shows a dog going from fully engaged in a game of tug to immediately releasing the toy when given the cue. That's the kind of response we work toward because obedience isn't just about following commands. It's about maintaining focus and responding to the handler, even when distractions and excitement are high.

A strong "drop" command can make everyday life easier and safer for both you and your dog.

A dog is not just a dog.

One of the things we love most about what we do is getting to work with so many different breeds, personalities, and learning styles. Every dog that walks through our doors teaches us something new.

A Border Collie doesn't learn like a Labrador. A German Shepherd doesn't think like a Beagle. A Great Pyrenees approaches training differently than a Golden Retriever. A Belgian Malinois processes information differently than a Bulldog. And a Terrier? Well, they often have their own opinions about everything!

But here's the really important part: breed is only one piece of the puzzle.

We've trained dogs of the same breed that couldn't be more different from each other. One Labrador may be highly food motivated while another would rather work for a toy. One German Shepherd may crave structure while another needs extra confidence-building. Every dog is an individual.

That's why good training isn't about using the exact same approach for every breed, or every dog. It's about learning how each individual dog thinks, what motivates them, what challenges them, and how they learn best.

At Pet Commander Kennels, we take the time to understand the dog in front of us and build a training plan around their unique needs. Because the best results happen when training is tailored to the individual dog, not just their breed.

And honestly? Getting to know all those different minds is one of our favorite parts of the job.

Some dogs just have a way of stealing everyone's heart, and Winnie is definitely one of them! 🐾 She is loved by our entire team and always makes our jobs easy with her sweet personality and wonderful manners.

Winnie completed our 30 Day Obedience Program a while back, and now she's back for boarding. In this video, she's showing off her stay command, patiently waiting until she's released before coming to us. That kind of reliability doesn't happen by accident!

Winnie and her family have continued to put in the work long after training ended, and it shows. Consistency at home is what turns training into lifelong habits, and Winnie is proof of that. When families stay committed, the results can be amazing.

And if you've ever met Winnie, you know she always saves the best part for last... that adorable Golden Retriever smile! 😊
