💔➡️💖 From Trauma to Healing: Boulder’s Story 💖➡️💪

As a fur baby momma, facing an emergency is every pet parent’s nightmare. This weekend, Boulder’s mom lived that reality when her sweet boy needed emergency surgery to remove his eye. 😢

But through the fear and uncertainty, she found compassion, skill, and support at every step:

🗣️ “The staff was AMAZING to say the least… from the check-in staff, triage team, and the ER physician. Dr. Beckham was incredibly sensitive and did an amazing job! Called me at 1:00 am to give me an update on the surgery. Dr. Chapman was great at the checkout process and next steps.”

Boulder, you’re one brave pup—and your mom is a rockstar. 🐶💪
We’re honored to be part of your journey to healing. 💙

💪 🚗 Vin Weasel, the fast and the furriest little ferret...who was slowed down due to a urinary blockage. 🐾

Ferrets, like cats, have acidic urine that, coupled with diet and possible genetic factors, predisposes them to developing stones within their urinary bladder. Within the bladder, these stones can cause irritation and lead to clinical signs like red-tinged urine or frequent, small urinations at home. In some cases, though, the stones can travel into the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body). This poses a problem for male ferrets especially, as they have a very narrow urethra resulting in stones getting lodged and obstructing urinary outflow. 💦

🐾 🤎 Not only is this and the stretching of the bladder with urine uncomfortable, but eventually the kidneys aren't able to filter and excrete potassium and various toxins, leading to detrimental impacts on the heart and other organs. Without emergency intervention, obstructed or "blocked" ferrets run the risk of fatal cardiac arrhythmias and bladder rupture.

🚑 Emergency treatment to resolve the blockage is a must, often followed by surgical removal of the stones from the urinary bladder (called a cystotomy) to prevent further obstruction. Adrenal disease (a common condition in our ferret friends) can cause an enlarged prostate, which may also obstruct the urethra, so routine checkups with your exotics veterinarian are recommended to ensure your ferrets are in good health!

🚨 📲 If your ferret has a health emergency, call AEHNT at (817)410-2273 or visit us at 2700 West State Hwy 114 in Grapevine.

🐰💖 From Peter to Pattie: A Bunny Tale at AEHNT! 💖🐰

We absolutely loved meeting this sweet little bunny—formerly known as Peter Rabbit—who surprised everyone (including her human!) with a big reveal during her visit. Turns out… Peter is actually a Pattie! 😄

Huge thanks to her amazing pet parent for the kind words:

🗣️ “The doctor and staff were extremely helpful and had a great bedside manner and sense of humor in providing care for my bunny formerly known as Peter Rabbit... discovered she's a girl while at the hospital so now calling her Pattie Rabbit 🤣”

At AEHNT, we’re here for every twist, turn, and tail wiggle in your pet’s journey. 💕🐾

📍 Compassionate care. Expert team. And yes, a good sense of humor too.
