Thank you, Kristen, for giving the M&R horses the best life & care, and for creating a peaceful and welcoming barn environment for equestrians and equines alike (oh yeah- and the cats too)! 🤣 🐈‍⬛

🧹 🐴 In true fashion, she’s probably still doing all the barn chores today, from filling hay bags to shoveling poo…. but we hope you take some time to celebrate YOU! Happy Birthday!

📣 We’re Growing!!!

🐴 💜 We are excited to introduce our newest instructor, Hillary Elvin, and she is so excited to join us!

Hillary has lived in Ohio for about 4 years, but she grew up in Utah riding horses since she was eight years old, switching back and forth from English to Western. Her preferred riding style is Western, so naturally, she was drawn to working on a couple of dude ranches in Washington and Wyoming. 🐮 🤠

She is married with one daughter and two dogs. In her downtime, she likes to be creative and crochet blankets and sweaters.

Hillary has loved horses her whole life and constantly seeks opportunities for learning and growth in the equine industry. She currently learns from one of our favorites - Kaylie Eaves Horsemanship, based in Sunbury, and studies different ways to train and approach our horses.

We are looking forward to Hillary sharing her knowledge and helping us become better partners for our equine friends! 💕 🐎

🐴 💕 A few of the M&R Stables ladies took a personal day and headed out to The Wilds to enjoy a trail ride! Of course it’s ALL horses, all the time, even when we are just relaxing 😂

😍 Lucy, Bailey, and Barney were so sweet and kind. They were steady and safe, so we could look around and enjoy the scenery! The clouds and rolling hills were stunning.

Highly recommend this excursion ….. and we promise that Murcie, Harrods, Jethro, and Paisley won’t be too jealous 😏 😉

🔥 Heat Advisories 🔥 are starting to pop up here in Ohio!

When the temperature spikes, we slow things down a bit to make sure horses and riders aren’t overheating 🥵

This week, you might catch us giving more baths 💦 , spending more time riding the shady trails behind the barn 🌳 , and working on ground work and ‘slow & steady’ obstacle navigation.

Four days full of games, activities, riding, & barn time. What better way to spend the summer? Outside, letting them be kids, and throw in some horses and barn cats 🐴 🐈‍⬛

Did you know clover can make horses drool a lot? 😮💧

It’s not because Jethro here is extra hungry — it’s because certain clovers (especially red clover) can host a fungus called Rhizoctonia leguminicola. This fungus produces a compound called slaframine. When horses eat infected clover, slaframine stimulates their salivary glands, leading to major drool streams!

🤤 The good news: it looks dramatic and it’s a bit gross, but it’s harmless and goes away once the horse stops eating the affected plants. 🌾✨

🧽 🧼 Today was a spa day for 2 of our favorites!
Shout out to our students who pitched in and scrubbed Harrods and Murcie from mane to tail. They both were ✨ sparkling and shiny ✨ as they stepped outside to enjoy the rest of the day in the pasture.

🦌 💕 We stepped outside earlier this week, checking the pastures after all the heavy rain.

Much to our surprise, a resident white-tail doe was trying to put Paisley and Jethro on baby sitting duty!

We 💗 love that she felt safe enough to have her baby at our farm 😍 The mama returned eventually to get her baby, but we will be watching for him/her all summer as she grows!
