🐾 A Day in the Life of a Rescue Cat 🐾

8:00 AM — Breakfast is served. I act like I haven’t eaten in 14 years even though I absolutely have. Dramatic performance: 10/10.

9:00 AM — Morning cleaning crew arrives. I supervise from my bed of choice (today it’s the top shelf, yesterday it was the litter box… I keep them guessing).

10:30 AM — Enrichment time. Someone brings toys. I ignore all toys… until they stop looking. Then I steal them.

12:00 PM — Nap shift #1. This is serious business. I rotate between sunbeam, blanket pile, and “somewhere inconvenient.”

2:00 PM — Visitors arrive. I may or may not appear. If I do, it’s only briefly, for mysterious charm purposes.

4:00 PM — Second round of playtime. I suddenly remember I am an athlete. I sprint. I jump. I immediately need a nap afterward.

6:00 PM — Dinner. Again, I act shocked that food is happening. I supervise closely to ensure quality control.

8:00 PM — Evening reflections. I stare thoughtfully into space, contemplating my future forever home… or a crinkle ball.

10:00 PM — Lights down. I settle in, ready to do it all again tomorrow.

Life in rescue isn’t forever—it’s just the waiting room for a better story. And every day brings me one step closer to my person. ❤️🐾

Not every cat walks into a new home and immediately acts like they've lived there forever.

Some cats hide.
Some watch from a distance.
Some need days, weeks, or even months before they truly feel safe.

And that's okay.

Shy cats deserve homes, too.

Too often, we hear that a cat is "boring," "doesn't like me," or "never comes out." But many timid cats are simply waiting for someone to show them patience. Once they realize they're safe and loved, it's incredible to watch them blossom into affectionate, playful, devoted companions.

The quiet cat under the bed today may become the cat sleeping on your pillow a few months from now.

Not every flower blooms on the same schedule.
The most rewarding relationships are sometimes the ones you have to earn. ❤️🐾

If you're considering adopting, please remember that shy cats aren't broken. They just need what all of us need sometimes—a little grace, a little understanding, and the time to become themselves.

Meet Wally -- he's our longest in care, and has been waiting for his forever home for 425 days... He's content in the lounge at Whiskers Catnip Cottage, never causes trouble with other cats; but he rarely approaches people he doesn't know for attention, though he willingly will accept if you approach him! But those of us he knows? He climbs right into our laps and purrs his little heart out. Won't you give him a chance?

We're seeing an overwhelming number of surrender requests lately. Every day, we receive messages from people looking to rehome cats they got from friends, found online, or adopted from another rescue.

However a cat comes into your life, they have the same needs: a safe home, a full belly, and a family that means forever.

We understand that genuine hardships happen, and sometimes rehoming is unavoidable. But bringing home a cat should never be an impulse decision. Cats are living beings; not decorations, temporary companions, or something to keep until life gets inconvenient or a baby is on the way. There ARE ways to cope with most cat allergies.

That free kitten will grow up. The playful youngster will become a senior. There will be vet bills, litter boxes to scoop (and sometimes they might miss that box), scratched furniture, and personalities that don't always match our expectations. That's all part of sharing our lives with animals.

Before saying "yes" to a cat, please think beyond today. Think about next year, five years from now, and fifteen years from now. Cats don't understand why they're suddenly unwanted. They only know that the people they trusted are gone, and our volunteers are left to pick up the shattered pieces and put them back together -- if we can.

We're always here to help with behavior issues, introductions, allergy help and resources whenever possible. But we hope more people will view bringing home a cat as a lifelong commitment—not just taking in a pet for the moment or until the kittens grow up.

Because every cat, no matter where they came from, deserves a forever home. ❤️🐾

Meet Rosette... She's been in care for about 6 months -- she looks like she's had a hard life but is the absolute sweetest girl. Quiet, minds her own business and just wants a soft couch with a window to look out. Tolerates other cats but would love to be an only kitty. She had severe dental disease and had a full mouth extraction while with us -- so you'll never have a dental bill for her!

This Pet Appreciation Week, we're reminded that loving a pet means loving them through every stage.

Through all the antics and kitten chaos.
Through chewed shoes and scratched couches.
Through gray whiskers and slower steps.

We love them through the good, the bad, and the downright naughty because they are family.

And family is worth every muddy paw print, every hair-covered blanket, and every moment spent together.

They may only be part of our lives, but to them, we are their whole world, and we owe it to them to take care of them through to the very end. ❤️🐾🥹

It's Pet Appreciation Week, and we're grateful for the little things...

The happy greetings when we come home.
The purrs and tail wags.
The head bumps, kisses, and comforting presence when life gets hard.
Even the head butts and forehead licks in the middle of the night.

They don't ask for much—just food, love, and perhaps 3/4 of the bed.

And somehow, they give us far more than we could ever give them.

Here's to our best friends, in all their furry, feathered, and occasionally naughty glory. 🐾💕

Every day, we receive more requests for help with kittens than we have room to accommodate. Tiny lives are depending on us, but we simply can't say "yes" without foster homes.

Fostering saves lives. Whether you can help for a few weeks or a couple months, opening your home to a litter of kittens gives them the chance they deserve and allows us to help the next family reaching out in need.
