🐾 Meet Diesel! 🐾

Diesel is a 5-month-old German Shepherd mix looking for his forever home! ❤️ He’s a happy, energetic puppy who loves other dogs, has been around kids, and is eager to please. He’s already doing great keeping his kennel clean too!

Diesel is 38 pounds now and will likely be around 60 pounds full grown. And check out that adorable little white spot on the back of his head! 😍 We’re not sure what he’s mixed with, but it sure makes him cute!

Diesel is current on vaccines and will be neutered before adoption. He just needs a family ready for some puppy energy, training, and lots of love! 🏡🐶

Come meet Diesel! 💙

🐾 2026 Shelter Recap — So Far! 🐾

We’re a little over halfway through the year, and we wanted to share what’s been happening at the shelter. ❤️

🏡 71 dogs adopted into loving homes!
🎉 6 more dogs are currently on adoption hold and will be heading home this week!
🐶 24 adoptions in February — our biggest month so far!
🚗 Our farthest adoption this year sent one lucky pup all the way to Illinois!
🏠 17 dogs are currently in our care — with 6 already spoken for.
📋 And the need keeps coming… we currently have 12 dogs waiting for a spot at the shelter.

Every adoption means more than just one dog finding a home. It also opens a kennel for another dog who needs us.
We couldn’t keep doing this without our adopters, fosters, donors, volunteers, and everyone who shares our posts and helps spread the word. Thank you for helping us give these dogs the second chances they deserve! 🐾❤️

SKIP HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

🐾 Meet Skip — Our Sweet New Heeler Who Needs a Little Help ❤️

Skip came to us as a stray with a badly broken leg. We don’t know what happened to him — he may have been hit by a car or possibly fallen from the back of a truck. What we do know is that his injury is severe enough that his leg cannot be saved, and Skip needed to have it amputated.

Despite everything he has been through, Skip has been an absolute sweetheart from the moment he arrived. ❤️ He loves everyone he meets, his tail keeps wagging, and he has been happy and loving through it all. He certainly hasn’t let his broken leg dampen his spirit!

No owner has come forward to claim Skip, so we are now getting him healthy and ready to find a family of his own. 🏡🐾

Skip has a little more ahead of him than we originally hoped. In addition to his leg amputation, he still needs to be neutered. Skip also has a retained testicle, meaning one of his testicles never descended and is likely located in his abdomen. It will need to be surgically located and removed because leaving it behind can cause serious health problems later in life.

Between his leg amputation, neuter, and additional abdominal surgery, Skip’s medical care is adding up. We would be incredibly grateful for any donations to help us cover the cost of getting this sweet boy healthy and ready for his new life. ❤️

💙 If you would like to help Skip, you can donate through the PayPal link below.

Every donation — big or small — helps. And if you can’t donate, sharing Skip’s story helps too!

Skip has already been through a lot for such a young dog, but you would never know it from his personality. We have a feeling this happy little three-legged Heeler is going to make one very lucky family an amazing companion. 🐾❤️

Skip is also available for adoption! If you think you could be the family waiting for him, please reach out to us for more information.

POSTING AGAIN WITH A DONATION LINK

💔 We Need Your Help for a Very Special Puppy 💔

Meet our sweet 10-month-old Mini Poodle. She recently came to the Perkins County Animal Shelter because her owner could not afford her medical expenses due to hip dysplasia.
Hip dysplasia occurs when the hip joint doesn't form properly. Instead of the ball and socket fitting together smoothly, the joint is loose and unstable. This causes pain, inflammation, difficulty walking, and eventually arthritis. At just 10 months old, she already struggles with something no puppy should have to endure.

Our veterinarian has recommended bilateral Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) surgery. An FHO is a procedure where the damaged "ball" portion of the hip joint (the femoral head) is surgically removed. While that may sound drastic, dogs do incredibly well with this surgery. After healing and physical therapy, the surrounding muscles create a "false joint" that allows them to walk, run, and play comfortably without the constant bone-on-bone pain caused by hip dysplasia.

Because both hips are affected, she will need surgery on each side to give her the best chance at living a happy, pain-free life.

As a shelter, we believe every dog deserves that chance, but this surgery comes with a significant cost. We are asking for your help to make it possible.

Every donation—whether it's $5, $25, or $100—brings this little girl one step closer to running, playing, and finding the loving family she deserves.

There is a video of how this is effecting her walking but not her attitude in the comments.
