Full steam ahead on the European skull mounts. We get skulls completed very quickly, (just a matter of a few weeks) if they were shoulder mounts you’d be looking at 2 years completion time…. And I hate running that far behind. But when you’ve been in business 38 years in the same location with a good reputation, that’s just how it is!

Well, so much for slowing down, taking less animals in and getting caught up. We’re getting slammed with deer and elk from 2nd season. Charley has been out here all week helping Dave and they’re usually under the caping tent all day dealing with critters. A few successful hunters….. Dave Bierschied with a big Utah buck. Landon Byers, from Kentucky and his dad with Landon’s first elk (just look at that smile…. that’s what it’s all about). Matt Bake from Washington State with his 4X4 buck. Bill Brown with his last day meat buck and Juan Medrano with a huge 180 class buck. Lots more pics from successful hunters to come.

Delivered an awesome buffalo mount to Dave Bierschied’s cabin in the LaSal Mountains of Utah. Dave’s cabin was one of the fortunate ones to survive the recent fires in the LaSal mountains.

More successful hunters from this past week. Sean and Danielle Pond with Sean’s Colorado moose and their deer from last year. Sean is a former outfitter and usually capes and freeze’s his trophies before bringing them in. Cindy and Mark Shanklin with Cindy’s Ranching-For-Wildlife Bull that took her 27 years to draw the tag. Jordan and his dad Dennis Oeltjenbruns with Jordan’s antelope.

Super nice Record Book Shiras Moose. Orville Petersen shot this 50 inch Colorado Moose with his muzzle-loader. It easily makes the Long-Hunter Record Book, putting it in Colorado’s top 10 for Shiras Moose. It also makes Boone & Crockett’s all-time Record Book. Now he’s trying to talk me into hanging it in his cabin. Congrats Orville!

Should I have said something? The Kentucky boys came by to pick up some of their deer and elk mounts…. They were so busy posing for the photograph that they didn’t notice the bear getting into the backseat of their truck. I’m sure they figured it out as it’s a long trip back to Kentucky. Haven’t heard anything on the news or read anything in the newspaper…. Hope they’re alright!

Some of my successful hunters this week. Mistalynn Meyeraan (in Camo) with her Grand Mesa moose. Looks like Mr. Carhartt could put that moose over his shoulder and pack it out by himself. Brenda Ellis from Utah with a nice LaSal’s Mountain bull elk. Derrik and Jessica Foster with Derrik’s mountain goat. More Moab, Utah folks pulled up about the same time. Alejandro Delgado and his son with Alejandro’s antelope. Miranda Black and her husband with Miranda’s antelope. We do lots of work for people in the Moab area. Trying to keep up with everything that comes in while cranking out all the critters we have to be mounted.

Quite the makeover on this big 6x6 Bull Elk. However, when it was brought in it was really broken up. The orange tape shows where the antlers were broke off, basically a 6x3 with two points broken on the other 6 point side. Kentucky hunter Rick Pine knew I was the man to fix it up as we’ve fixed many broken antlers for his hunting buddies. When these Elk are rutting and fighting other bulls for dominance they sure can break up their antlers. When we fix antlers we use real antler not cast resin antlers. Dave holds a couple of antlers that we “borrowed” antler points from to fix this one. 90% of hunters (including myself) would fix antlers as opposed to leaving them broken.

A really cool mount. A Dall Sheep (taken in Alaska) and a Stone Sheep (taken in British Columbia) in separate years by Kyle Goddard of Palisade, Colorado. Kyle wanted a double pedestal mount for the sheep…. Easier said than done! In the Taxidermy world there aren’t always a lot of forms that fit a particular animal in the pose the client wants. We aim to please, so we altered standard shoulder mounts into pedestal mounts by adding the scalloped back to the back of the form and drilled our own hole in the brisket area for placement on the rock base. We then covered the exposed back with leather. I know it’s tough to focus on the sheep with that background of awesomeness on the walls!
