THANK YOU to all who sent emails!
We are headed in the right direction. Senator Anton has taken over the bill and wants to amend it to include Municipal Shelters. The request for this amendment for House Bill 263 has passed the Senate. Once that amendment takes place, it will head back to the Senate to be debated and voted on. Your continued support and positive thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.

🚨 Urgent Appeal to Our Supporters – Time is of the Essence! 🚨
We need your help, Broken Hearts Rescue family! The state of Idaho has recently begun taxing and back-taxing rescues, arguing that adoption fees are considered sales. This could mean the closure of rescues like ours and the loss of countless lives of homeless and neglected animals here in our beautiful state.
Without an amendment to this bill, rescues will face an overwhelming burden and may be forced to shut down, leaving shelters overrun and animals with no place to go.
At Broken Hearts Rescue, we pride ourselves on charging only a reasonable adoption fee—one that often does not even cover the vet bills, which we also pay taxes on. The supplies we use to care for the animals, including food, are taxed too. In fact, we lose money on almost every adoption, and many of our rescue animals have received life-saving medical treatment costing over $1000, yet we still keep adoption fees under $300.
Time is of the essence! The lawmakers meet tomorrow at 2 PM, and we are urgently asking for your support. We need YOU to send a letter asking for the amendment of House Bill 263, which would ensure rescues like ours can continue their lifesaving work without being burdened by unnecessary taxes.
Please take a moment to send a letter of support for the amendment and help us keep our doors open for the animals who need us most. Your voice matters!
Thank you for your continued support and for standing with us during this critical time. 🙏❤️
