When we talk about K9 Safety and how much we take into consideration the Safety of those that come to us for training. Every summer we test different surfaces and post to be very careful with your dog, puppy, and please watch young children and those with balance issues when our temperatures get in the 100s the ground, rocks, door handles can cause 2nd and 3rd degree burns in a matter of seconds. I bring this story up about a man who fell in his yard and suffered 3rd degree buns to his hands and face. Pet dogs are not wildlife they are not Coyotes or cows they can suffer burns on their pads.

Photos from today's Search and Rescue (SAR) tracking training with K9 Zuni.

We are fortunate to have friends who volunteer their time to act as subjects during our training exercises. Today's subject, Jason, traveled approximately one-third of a mile through the desert, making numerous turns along the track.

Combined with light winds and challenging scent conditions, this created a realistic training scenario that tested both K9 and handler skills.
Tracking work is designed to prepare SAR K9 teams to locate missing persons in real-world environments.

During this exercise, Jason was located in open desert terrain, requiring Zuni to work through a variety of environmental odors and distractions while following the correct human scent trail. Through scent discrimination and determination, Zuni successfully located her subject.

Training opportunities like these are invaluable in helping SAR K9 teams maintain and improve the skills needed for real search missions. We are grateful to those who volunteer to "get lost" for our dogs and contribute to their ongoing education and development.

Thank you, Jason, for your time and support of K9 Zuni's training.

When we talk about community support and supporting fellow trainers.

Just like we did this morning with Mark Naumer and his dog Buddy. Mark asked for some assistance with Reliable Recalls with Distractions while using E-collar on low level of stimulation. When we say low level the level was single digits on the remote. This is very important as buddy needs to learn that the stimulation means come to dad. He had some much fun running around the training center and recalling to his dad and another important aspect of this type of training and really any work is the two ball play at the end. Great job today Mark and Buddy.
