Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK)

Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) Helping at-risk dogs find loving homes since 2012. ARK was formed to fill a gap between at-risk dogs and the organizations or individuals that can help them.

Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) is a unique, all-volunteer nonprofit organization that specializes in helping dogs that are hard-to-place, marginalized, and mislabeled as ‘unadoptable’ Since its inception in 2012, ARK has helped more than 1,000 dogs find loving homes. Through its unique capabilities and experiences, ARK embraces the challenge of finding homes for dogs that have had moments of poor

behavior which historically ended in euthanasia. To prevent this needless loss of life, ARK promotes the use of progressive and proven alternatives for solving and/or managing behavioral issues. We also support the growing number of open-minded shelters, rescues, and animal control officers who have incorporated best practices into their policies and procedures. Over the past several years, they have realized the same tremendous success that ARK has experienced – behaviorally challenged dogs transform into integral parts of the family after being placed in the right home and given time to adjust to a new life. Whether behavior manifests in a shelter or home environment, other options must be explored. In addition, ARK works to raise awareness about the population of dogs they serve because more work is needed. While many organizations have incorporated a more just and humane approach for managing dogs with behavioral issues, others are still making hasty decisions about euthanasia before trying all availalbe options. Further, dangerous advice is still being circulated by so-called professionals in the field. Thankfully, progressive practices continue to gain traction. We are grateful to the many dogs who are living proof that a dog’s fate must not be based on behavior alone. Though previously labeled unfit for adoption and given no options to succeed, their lives inspire ARK to Just Save Them®.

A lot of new dogs this week. First, this lovely German Shepherd has a smile that never quits! Five-year-old Leo is very sweet and affectionate even though he’s a big boy of 81 pounds! He likes being challenged, whether it’s through games and puzzles or a good run or hike, and he’ll need a devoted brainiac who loves and understands his working breed nature.

Though active, Leo appreciates even-keeled people and environments. No drama, no chaos, just a life with average days that have balance and routine peppered with amusement and companionship. German Shepherds typically enjoy a solo pet status. He is not a fan of other dogs and therefore needs to be your only pet. He also needs a fairly active adult-only home where weekends are more about doing things than watching TV.

Leo loves attention and being part of adventures. If you’re like-minded and have some large dog/working dog experience, he will be your sincere and steadfast friend. Please contact Animal Protection Center of Southern Mass, which is an excellent shelter, and tell them Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) referred you! We can’t believe Waylon has not been adopted yet! If you value a genuine relationship with a dog, this is your guy. Approximately 5- to 6-years-old, he is not just smart and dedicated, he is keenly in tune with his person. He will look to you for direction and remain within ear shot.

A big part of Waylon’s life is his love and need for daily exercise and off-leash time. He loves to run free, but being such a good boy, he is normally in sight and comes back when called. He also has a good foundation of manners - sit, down, paw, and fetch. He deserves someone who will hold him to these skills and continue his training.

Currently living in a rural area, Waylon has shown he’s a natural farm hand. He does well around horses and other large animals and is unfazed by farm equipment. He’d make a nice fur-sibling with a large resident dog who also likes to play hard. We would love for him to be adopted by a family with land, but minimally a very large fenced yard for off leash play.

Waylon is great meeting lots of people during the rescue’s Sunday open houses. At first, he can be leary of men he doesn’t know, however if introduced with a cookie, he is generally fine. He’s been wonderful with children, but due to his size, older children are best. Please arrange to meet Waylon by contacting Live and Let Live Farm’s Rescue & Sanctuary in NH. Did you know shelters are full of teenage dogs? It's the most common age for surrenders, especially large dogs. They are a big bundle of confidence, fear, hormones and hubris, but as pet parents it's our job to get them through it.

Toby is a very handsome 3-year-old, 50-lb silver Lab mix with a gentle heart and soulful eyes. He is the kind of dog who forms a deep bond with his person and becomes an incredibly loyal companion. He is house- and crate-trained, walks well on a leash, and is getting to know his basic commands. He has wonderful manners and is very sweet and submissive with people—he doesn’t jump up and prefers calm affection and companionship.

Toby was raised with a Golden Retriever but didn’t have much exposure to other dogs growing up. Because of that, he can be nervous when unfamiliar dogs approach him quickly, especially face-to-face. With slow introductions and time to build trust, he settles in and becomes much more comfortable. He can be your only pet or live with another mannerly dog if the owner is experienced and will use tried and true strategies for creating a lasting canine bond. Both dogs should have slow introductions.

If you’re someone who enjoys walking, hiking, or exploring the outdoors, Toby would love to be right by your side. He truly is a super sweet, sensitive soul who just needs someone patient and kind to help him feel safe. In return, you’ll get a loyal companion who is happiest sharing life and adventures with his people. Unfortunately, Toby is crated for 13 hours per day. We consider this an urgent situation. Happy Memorial Day from Norma! This lovely girl is a great fit for an active family and wants to be a part of your adventure club! At two-years-old and 50 pounds, she currently has a sweet gig in a foster home in Andover. Loving her comes easy. She is good with other dogs, but has not been cat tested. Playing in a fenced yard with a canine sibling would feed her soul. She’ll need work with her jumpy behavior, so for that reason no small kids.

Though active, she is no stranger to comfy beds and sweet dreams. If you have specific questions, please contact our rescue partner A Place for Ace. To meet Norma, you’ll need to submit an adoption application at https://aplaceforace.org/ Please tell them Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) sent you!

There’s a whole lotta Lottie to love on! This bubbly 2-year-old, 45-pound brindle is an all-around good girl! She wakes up happy every day and is always ready for adventure. Playtime and zoomies are two of her greatest joys. She also approves of any agenda that includes a car ride, sniff walk, playdate, day trip, or whatever her people can conjure up.

Background: Lottie is originally from a loving home, but a military change of station prevented Lottie from moving with her family. She is now with a wonderful rescue called Brown Dog Coalition. One of their amazing foster families has been putting in the time, training, and enrichment to help her keep growing into the awesome family dog she’s meant to be. Her final step is finding an active family to fill the “Lottie void” they don’t even know is missing!

Lottie is very familiar with children, especially dog-savvy older kids. However, a fellow canine kid is a must! She would love a playful sib to share her genuine joie de vivre. She is fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on core vaccines. Not one to lounge all day, she would love a fenced yard. No cats or apartments please! To meet her, please complete an application at browndogcoalition.com/adoptable and tell them Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) sent you! Thanks!

Marshmallow is just that, a yummy treat you just want to squish and savor. He is not just a dog or a pet – he is an integral and beloved family member with a mom and three sisters (two 2-legged and one 4-legged). We can all relate!

Tragically, this four-year-old chi from Puerto Rico needed immediate surgery to put him back together after a serious accident. He was struck by a car after getting loose from his leash and suffered multiple fractures. Surgery, x-rays, medication, and after care…it costs a lot.

Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) has provided most of the funds to cover his urgent surgery which was on May 6, 2026. Could you help us recover $4,000 to build back our reserves for emergencies such as this? An accident of any kind can happen and a lot of us don’t have that much ready cash. Your donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward his vet bill. We will send proof of your donation for taxes or proof of his vet expenses upon request. If you can’t donate, PLEASE share this fundraiser. https://gofund.me/62b5702ce

The family and ARK are deeply appreciative for any support you can manage. He is expected to be ship-shape in two months, so send your good vibes for the long process ahead.

Safety Tip! We also want to impart the importance of well-fitting collars and harnesses, and careful handling while walking your dog. Secure your fence gates, look for holes along the fence line, and if you have a bolter or dog with prey drive, secure them before opening doors!
