Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK)

Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) Helping at-risk dogs find loving homes since 2012. ARK was formed to fill a gap between at-risk dogs and the organizations or individuals that can help them.

Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) is a unique, all-volunteer nonprofit organization that specializes in helping dogs that are hard-to-place, marginalized, and mislabeled as ‘unadoptable’ Since its inception in 2012, ARK has helped more than 1,000 dogs find loving homes. Through its unique capabilities and experiences, ARK embraces the challenge of finding homes for dogs that have had moments of poor

behavior which historically ended in euthanasia. To prevent this needless loss of life, ARK promotes the use of progressive and proven alternatives for solving and/or managing behavioral issues. We also support the growing number of open-minded shelters, rescues, and animal control officers who have incorporated best practices into their policies and procedures. Over the past several years, they have realized the same tremendous success that ARK has experienced – behaviorally challenged dogs transform into integral parts of the family after being placed in the right home and given time to adjust to a new life. Whether behavior manifests in a shelter or home environment, other options must be explored. In addition, ARK works to raise awareness about the population of dogs they serve because more work is needed. While many organizations have incorporated a more just and humane approach for managing dogs with behavioral issues, others are still making hasty decisions about euthanasia before trying all availalbe options. Further, dangerous advice is still being circulated by so-called professionals in the field. Thankfully, progressive practices continue to gain traction. We are grateful to the many dogs who are living proof that a dog’s fate must not be based on behavior alone. Though previously labeled unfit for adoption and given no options to succeed, their lives inspire ARK to Just Save Them®.

Draco is a super cute one-year old, 51-pound male mix. Made of a little bit of this and a little bit of that, but his debonaire mustache and handsome markings can’t be denied. He thrives as an only pet with an adopter who will give him a daily routine, enrichment, and exercise. A small family unit is best. At first he’ll need some back-to-basics training with positive reinforcement. No young children or cats.

Some history, when Draco was 6-months-old, his original family moved. A kind-hearted person agreed to temporarily care for Draco until his family was settled. What was supposed to be a few weeks turned into abandonment. This nice family kept him out of a shelter, but the busy home with young children and three other dogs has caused Draco to act out. The household is completely stressed, making this an urgent plea.

Draco needs a fresh start in life as he’s missed out on every dog’s dream of having a forever home. He’s yet to experience the warm and fuzzies of having a ride or die companion. He’s looking for an experienced dog owner who is somewhat active due to his age and need for direction. PLEASE contact [email protected] as soon as possible. This is a home to home adoption, but some rescue support may be available to a responsible adopter.

Meet Tengu! This 10-month old boy is crazy for toys! He is looking for a forever family that will show him the world isn’t as scary as he thinks! Once he knows you, he is a funny lovebug. He learns from other dogs and would love a nice canine pal by his side. He’s good with his current 6-year-old foster kid, but get nervous when introduced to new people. We’d love someone to continue training and working with him to reduce his triggers. Fenced yards give him a sense of security. Learn more here: https://www.pawfectliferescue.org/adoptable-dogs

Why wait to share your summer with this yummy dumpling?! Miss Perci never met a stranger! She’s 1 year old and 30 lbs. We think she is a kelpie mix. Her one bad trait, she likes to escape. She will need an adopter to make sure she doesn't dig under the fence. Her favorite hobby is getting kisses and snuggles. She is currently in foster care in Sharon, MA. Meet the many sides of Charlie! He’s about 9-months-old and looks like a pittie-type mix which means he’s likely to grow bigger, stronger, and sturdier. Faint-hearted adopters are not a match! He is, however, a great match for fun-loving and experienced people who play actively with their dogs, and who want them to be their best.

Charlie is affectionate and loves to be loved on. He really enjoys human companionship. He’s also a very good boy and not aggressive, but he’s currently rated at high-speed on the exuberance scale. This phantom face is definitely fun and irresistible, but he sure needs doggy charm school! Fortunately, he is treat-motivated and plenty capable of learning good manners. He requires training with a dedicated owner who’ll use positive reinforcement as well as consistent follow through to maintain his skills. Training support is available if needed!

Sweet and handsome Charlie is already neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. He’s good with dogs, but he’s best as an only pet who keeps play dates on his social calendar. No cats. No young children due to size and training needs. Ages 12+ with dog experience considered. If you have real interest and questions, please email the good folks of Leominster and Fitchburg Animal Control at [email protected] Tell them Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) sent you!!!

This is Hugo the Magnificent, a very handsome 6-7-year old Lab/Great Dane mix at the Cranston, RI animal shelter. He unfortunately has a history of abuse and was previously deprived of toys over concerns of resource guarding. Because of this history, he would do best with a knowledgeable adopter who understands resource guarding and is willing to manage it appropriately. He now has access to toys and enrichment, and staff simply use appropriate management techniques, such as trading for items rather than taking them away. Duh!

Be part of Team Hugo! He’s done so well that he’s become Mr. Popularity and has a strong group of supporters cheering him on! Please consider meeting this lovely boy who was long misunderstood. A loving, quiet adult home is best. No children or other animals. Contact [email protected] and tell them ARK sent you!

Toby is a handsome 3-year-old silver Lab mix weighing about 50 pounds with a gentle heart and soulful eyes. He is the kind of dog who forms a deep bond with his person and becomes an incredibly loyal companion. He has wonderful manners and is very sweet and submissive with people—he doesn’t jump up and prefers calm affection and companionship. If you’re someone who enjoys walking, hiking, or exploring the outdoors, he would love to be right by your side.

Toby was raised with a Golden Retriever but didn’t have much exposure to other dogs growing up. Because of that, he can be nervous when unfamiliar dogs approach him quickly, especially face-to-face. With slow introductions and time to build trust, he settles in and becomes much more comfortable. He has already been making great progress meeting the same dogs repeatedly and learning that they’re friends. He can be your only pet or live with another mannerly dog if the owner is experienced and will use tried and true strategies for creating a lasting canine bond. Both dogs should have slow introductions. We’re happy to advise!

Toby truly is a super sweet, sensitive soul who just needs someone patient and kind to help him feel safe. In return, you’ll get a loyal companion who is happiest sharing life and adventures with his people. Once he bonds with his person, he becomes a devoted partner and could even enjoy off-leash adventures in the right environment.

Toby is house- and crate-trained, walks well on a leash, and is getting to know his basic commands. However, we hate to report that Toby is crated for 13 hours per day. This is not a good situation for any dog so we consider this an urgent situation. PLEASE complete an adoption application at www.goldenhuggs.org and tell them Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) sent you!

A letter from Fiona: Hi, my name is Fiona! I am nuts about playing with balls so my adoption comes with a year’s supply! I’m a 5-year old female German Shepherd mix, though almost the real deal at 73 percent GSD according to a stick they swiped in my mouth. Black Lab rounds out the rest of me. I love fun and adventure. I’m eager to please and very smart. Even though I could chase balls all day, I’m great at chilling out and being a couch ‘sweet’ potato. At 70 pounds I’m equipped with plenty of cuddle power. Belly rubs? Yes, please!

A slow and steady pace is the magical key to winning my heart. I’ve been in a boarding facility, which is basically a shelter, for more than 800 days. Eight hundred days. This means I need a loving and patient rescue angel to help me transition back to a normal home life. Even though I’m ready to bust a move out the front door, let’s take our time building a lasting relationship before taking me home. I don’t ever want to come back here, so please, let’s build a rock solid bond together.

Because of my long-term kennel stay, I’m sick of being around dogs. I only want humans! A small family and a fence are in my recurring dreams! Older calm kids with dog experience are welcome to join Team Fiona. By the way, I was very loved and a very good girl in my previous home. They just couldn’t keep me, so here I am asking for a second chance. A benefactor will cover a new-dog training class as well as my adoption fee. I feel so lucky to have two-legged friends watching over me! Please consider me for your next best friend. Please email my advocate and friend at [email protected] so we can meet!

This is Bubba Bear—6 year old, 52 pound border collie/cattle dog mix and he’s looking for a special someone to adopt him. He has a high IQ that makes learning tricks and commands easy and fun! He’s attended lots of training and can't wait to show you all his skills and tricks! He’s a respectful housemate who’s healthy, and up-to-date on vet care. His ideal scenario would be a single family home with a fenced-in yard.

Bubba Bear have been with a lovely family for the past few years, but the situation became a little chaotic when his owners had a baby—they were no Stewie and Brian, for all you Family Guy fans out there. He would be best as an only pet, but could live with another dog after a positive meet and greet. He generally needs time to get to know people before trusting them, so introduce strangers slowly

If you’d like a loyal best friend, Bubba Bear is perfect for the part. Though part of him loves being lazy and getting belly rubs, he was also built for adventure, so feel free to bring him to the park or other outings. There is no adoption fee, but we would gladly accept a donation to help dogs like Bubba Bear find homes! For more information about me, call or text Anna and Jon ‪(617) 843-5205 or email [email protected] (Zappa was his old name).

This lovely German Shepherd has a smile that never quits! Five-year-old Leo is very sweet and affectionate even though he’s a big boy of 81 pounds! Since he is an alert, loyal and smart dog, he’s going to need an equally devoted brainiac who loves and understands his working breed nature. He likes being challenged, whether it’s through games and puzzles or a good run or hike. Though active, he appreciates even-keeled people and environments. No drama, no chaos, just a life with average days that have balance and routine peppered with amusement and companionship.

German Shepherds typically enjoy a solo pet status. Leo is not a fan of other dogs and therefore needs to be your only pet. He also needs a fairly active adult-only home where weekends are more about doing things than watching TV. He loves attention and being part of adventures. If you’re like-minded and have some large dog/working dog experience, Leo will be your sincere and steadfast friend.

Please contact Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts, which is an excellent shelter, and tell them Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) referred you! Learn how to adopt Leo at https://www.apcsm.org/adoption
