Medicines should be stored securely, out of reach of children, in their original packaging, and under conditions specified on the label to ensure safety and effectiveness.
Keep medicines out of reach and sight of children and pets, preferably in a high cupboard or locked storage
Many human drugs are toxic to animals because of differences in metabolism, body size, and organ function. Even small amounts can cause serious illness or death. An over consumption of animal drugs can also be harmful to your pet.

If you suspect your pet has ingested any medications outside of their directed dose, please contact your local vet immediately. Have in mind the weight of your pet, amount of medicine ingested, dosage, and how long ago the incident occurred so your veterinary professional can create a time efficient and potentially lifesaving treatment plan.

As the heat rises, keep in mind that asphalt and pavement can reach temperatures that can cause severe burns to a dog's paw pads. If it's too hot for your bare feet, it's too hot for theirs! In times of extreme heat, keep your pets indoors or in shaded grassy areas with full access to cool water. Instead of walk, try indoor playing. In cases of distress, reach out to a veterinary professional for immediate help.

🔆🌡The most common cause of heat stroke or hyperthermia is leaving a dog in a car with inadequate ventilation. The dog's body temperature in this situation can elevate very rapidly, often within minutes. 🔆🌡
It is important to remember that dogs cannot control their body temperature by sweating as humans do, since they only have a relatively small number of sweat glands located in their footpads. Their primary way of regulating body temperature is by panting.

Why Should You Neuter Your Pet?
😺Once a male cat reaches puberty, he will develop a number of behavioral changes that will make him a less desirable pet. He will become territorial and start to mark areas, even inside the house, by spraying urine. This urine has a particularly offensive odor that is difficult to remove. The longer a tomcat sprays and fights, the less likely neutering will stop these behaviors.
🐶Neutering a dog reduces the risk of benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostatitis, reduces the risk of hormone-related diseases such as peria**l adenoma, eliminates the risk of testicular cancer, the second most common cancer in intact dogs, removes sexual urges, which usually decreases roaming behaviors and reduces certain types of aggression.
🤷‍♀️When Should You Neuter Yor Animal?
Most veterinarians recommend neutering canines at around six months of age. However, the larger the breed, the longer they recommend you wait. It is becoming more common to castrate feline males at an earlier age, such as three to four months, in an attempt to control over population.

🐱 FOUND KITTENS? 🐱 Please Don't "Cat-Nap" Them!
It’s kitten season, and we are seeing an influx of tiny felines. While it’s tempting to scoop them up and bring them in, that might actually do more harm than good!
Our clinic doesn’t have the facilities to hold stray or orphaned animals, but we do work closely with our local shelter City of Gillette Animal Shelter
Before you intervene, please remember:
• Mom is likely nearby: A kitten’s absolute best chance of survival is with its mother. She has to leave them to hunt, but she will come back.
What Should You Do?
1. Wait and Watch: Observe the kittens from a distance. If they look clean and are sleeping quietly, mom is on the job.
2. Only Intervene If: They are crying constantly, look dirty/sick, are in immediate danger, or mom hasn't returned after several hours. If you see an animal in need of immediate attention, our vets would be more than happy to examine them. Please note, the individual bringing the kitten in would assume responsibility for the cost of any care or medications received.

🌡💉If you see a kitten in need of medical attention and do not possess the funds to care for them, reach out to the shelter. There are a few options they have in place for kitten care.
• Become a "Finder-Foster": If you bring kittens to us, you can dramatically increase their survival rate by agreeing to foster them until they are old enough for adoption.
• They Provide Everything: Don't worry about the cost! The shelter provides all medical care, food, and supplies, you just provide the safe space and love.
• Donate Supplies: Not able to foster? You can still save lives by purchasing much-needed items directly from their Amazon Wishlist Kitten Registry!

🎆🎇The 4th of July is right around the corner, and with that, loud fireworks that can cause some animals stress. 🎇🎆 If your pet's anxiety spikes around the holidays, we can offer medication support. We encourage you to contact us now if you think your pet may need medication support so we can get everything in place ahead of the holiday.
⚠️Holiday Closure Notice ⚠️
We will be closed Saturday, July 4th so our team can enjoy time with their families.
🏠At-home comfort strategies🏠
-Keep pets in a quiet, interior room, ideally one with minimal windows or blackout curtains
-Allow crate-trained dogs access to their crate (covering it with a blanket can help create a sense of security); avoid crating pets who are not already comfortable in a crate
-Use background music, a TV, or white noise to help mask fireworks sounds
-Consider anxiety wraps such as Thundershirts, which can provide a calming, gentle pressure when used before fireworks begin
-Keep pets together with their household companions, but avoid introducing unfamiliar animals during this time
-Make sure collars, ID tags, and microchip information are current in case your pet becomes lost
-Stay calm and consistent; overly soothing or anxious reassurance can sometimes reinforce fearful behavior
-If possible, try not to leave pets alone during fireworks activity
