💔 Picking up Mr. Biscuit's cremains brought our loss into intense focus. As he slipped away earlier this month, we read him love letters. Here are our messages:

Dear Mr. Biscuit,
You changed my life and I’m forever grateful that you chose Steve on September 21, 2012. You turned him into a bonafide, card-carrying CAT DAD. My goal was to find a cat that Steve would connect with and you exceeded every expectation. You were his soulmate and witnessing your Bromance was a gift.

Biscuit, you waited two years at the shelter before we met. Your heartache inspired me to open Purr & Pour Cat Café and save almost 500 cats. I apologize for all the times work took priority over time with you but I know you felt loved every day.

We will continue to honor you by calling meals PARTY TIME, a phrase that always brought you running to the kitchen.

With time, my searing pain will subside. With time, my heart will allow laughter when I think of these memories:

▶Nobody believed that you liked to play hide and seek until they saw you respond to “I see you” while I peeked out from a hiding place;

▶When I said “South Paw,” you always gave me a high five with your left paw and got a treat;

▶You grew to like getting brushed, knowing that we needed to count to 50; and

▶You LOVED to "surf" by running down the stairs and landing on your cardboard scratcher.

Biscuit, I’m so thankful shelter staff convinced me that you were a GREAT cat even when you ignored me at the shelter. 😹

Godspeed my GOOD BOY. When no more words can be spoken, LOVE remains. 💔 Patricia

Dear Biscuit,
13 years ago, while walking through Montclair's animal shelter, Patricia found a solo, black, male cat. You were lonesome after two years in the shelter hoping for a Home. Patricia's heart opened up with love and she came to me to ensure that both of us would love you equally.

13 years later, we pay tribute. You have brought us boundless love and memories to nourish our paths forward. Often, you looked up at me as I recited, "You are KIND, You are SMART, and You are IMPORTANT!" I knew, that you knew, and that's all that mattered.

Our lives together were filled with love and joy, two of the most powerful metaphysical forces in the universe. You provided safety in the evenings when while in bed, I would reach down and feel your warm, soft body lying against my leg. Warmth emanating from the life forces deep within you. You were also wise. When Patricia and I would disagree on certain topics, you would look up and through your eyes tell us to set it aside, move on, and enjoy life together. We learned a lot from our beautiful boy.

Upon loss, the height of joy is sometimes moderated by the depth of pain. Love will win in the end.

You are my sunshine

You make me happy
When times are gray
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Deep in my heart
You're there to stay

CATFISH (previously Karen / Kay Kay) was 260 (now we're at 480 adoptions). 💕💕💕 She was overlooked because her face made people think she was angry. I always thought she was merely honoring Clint Eastwood by recreating the iconic line from the movie Gran Torino, "Get off my lawn!" 😹
In reality, she's a GREAT cat and here's her Mom's recent update:
"Still so happy that we got our sweet sassy girl from Purr & Pour!
Here’s a picture of “Karen” that we got from y’all in 2022… this picture was just a few days ago! She is so loved!!! "

THANKS to SASSY and CHANCE'S foster family for creating these CATmazing images about the kittens!!! Y'all know we LOVE fosters because they help kitties feel safe and loved (sometimes for the first time). We especially appreciate when fosters tell us about the kitties through texts, emails, filling out an info sheet, or creating something unique. 🐾🐾💕💕💕

"Pickles loves her daily adventures with a young family. There is always a toy to chase and someone to curl up with. She will even find the dog to hang out with. The best part is at night when she uses the boys as pillows! She is doing great!"

ARCHIE (previously Carrie) and REGGIE (previously Maximus) were adoptions 329 & 437 (now we're at 473 adoptions). 💕💕💕 They arrived shy (Archie) and nervous (Reggie was over grooming😿). Now, the boys are best buds and have gotten more confident, loving and trusting in their FURever 🏡. Here are updates from their Mom:
"Archie gives Reggie baths, they get along so well and play. Easiest transition ever. 😊 Reggie loves to sit with me when I'm crocheting. His fur and skin are much improved. No more over grooming or itching. Very happy ❤️ and he has a beautiful soft, fluffy coat😊" 💘 🐾🐾

This Sweet Face Inspired Us to Open a Cat Café

Mr. Biscuit languished in a shelter for two years before we met him. MISSION: Purr & Pour will revolutionize the cat adoption process in Georgetown County by fostering shelter cats in a comfortable, cage-free, home-like storefront. We’ll enrich the lives of cats and humans by providing a safe space to build positive connections and increase adoptions.

OUR VISION is a Georgetown County free from the overpopulation of non-altered feral and homeless cats because they’ve found loving forever homes. In addition to daily visitors, Purr & Pour provides community enrichment by hosting respite and educational outings for Veterans, school groups, trauma survivors and other nonprofits.
