Vigilance. Dedication. Empathy.

These were the themes of tonight’s community discussion as residents came together to address the fallout from the power outages and explore how we can collectively support our families, friends, and neighbors while advocating for accountability and relief for affected households.

We highlighted firsthand accounts from residents whose electric bills skyrocketed following the storms, leaving many struggling financially months later. For some households, bills have ranged from $300 to $500 or more, depending on factors such as reliance on generators to keep their homes powered.

But tonight wasn’t just about sharing experiences. It was about identifying actionable steps toward change.

Community members broke into dedicated committees focused on developing tangible solutions, strengthening community support, and establishing pathways toward accountability.

The conversation doesn’t end here. Now, it’s time to turn discussion into action. Stay tuned for more ways to get involved and ensure your voice is heard 💚

💡 The power has returned, but normalcy hasn’t.

We’ve come together to discuss the ongoing challenges impacting our communities and hear firsthand accounts of how residents continue to be affected.

But the conversation shouldn’t stop there. It’s time to turn discussion into action.

So, what comes next? How do we move forward, address our community’s needs, and work together toward meaningful solutions?

Let’s talk about it! Join us for our upcoming Community Meeting next Thursday, October 22, from 6–7:30 PM at Trinity United Church of Christ in Gary, Indiana.

We’ll reflect on where we are, identify priorities, explore opportunities to get involved, and work together to establish actionable next steps.

Your voice matters. Your ideas matter. And together, we can make a lasting impact.
