I had my first private training session with Q (for Quincy), a 6-month-old, German Shepherd. He is a big boy already. He is great at a lot of commands already but needs to be better on leash. Therefore, he will be in my next Mastering the Focused Heel group class in September.

His mom and I used to work for Lakeland College at Henry Hill Correctional Center about 9 years ago.

You can't trust your dog to make good decisions. Your dog pulls on the leash, lunges at strangers, growls at your guests.

Your response to this behavior has never yielded any permanent result. It may abbreviate the behavior *in that moment*, but it always resurfaces.

Did it occur to you that your dog cannot rely on the mixed signals he has gotten from you, his owner?

Trust has a living current that runs in both directions. Dogs are literal creatures and thrive on consistency and clear direction.

Your lack of consistency in communication is interfering in developing that relationship of mutual trust and respect.

Your dog is not a *bad* dog, he has just never learned how to cope with all the conflicts in communication. Dogs don't understand nuance.

They are taught to respond to our cues, and when those cues are inconsistent or perceived as threatening, our dogs are simply answering that communication question the best that they know how.

There's no trick to it. Be fair, be clear, and keep your emotions out of it.

Destiny & I took Addie to Inbinder Park for a nice longline walk then we picked her up the very BEST pup cup in Galesburg at Lim's Ice Cream. And we tried the new Georgia Peach ice cream, which was amazing.

I got to hang out with Princess Pippa and her sister Lady Skye for a few hours today. She had some minor surgery yesterday and she is recovering from it. Her mom had to take a relative to the doctor. She wanted to play fetch but Destiny and I made sure she rested instead.

Do you need someone to check in on your dog due to a long workday? Or do you need someone to take your young pup out to socialize them? Or do you want someone to come and go while you are on vacation (so you do not have to do boarding)? Dogs are much more comfortable in their own homes. I do not board dogs in my home or elsewhere. I do a free meet and greet before you leave on vacation.
Heather is a professional dog sitter who is certified in Pet CPR & First Aid through Pet Tech. She has over two decades of experience caring for other pets, and her own.
Potty/Play prices:
$30/30 minutes
$40/60 minutes
$60/60 minutes includes socialization in public & practicing what was taught in private training.
$145/overnight (9pm-7am)
Mileages charges per visit for those outside of Galesburg & Knoxville (.75 cents a mile roundtrip).
