Today was a big step forward in growing good things—for our land and our community. 💚

We spent the day mowing the outer perimeter of our newly constructed fence and tidying up between the rows of our beautiful blueberry, blackberry, and raspberry bushes 🫐—each one a future gift to neighbors in need.

We also started prepping the northernmost part of the property, where soon, apple, pear, and peach trees will be planted and take root. 🌳🍎

Every hour is one step closer to nourishing our community with fresh, local fruit—and hope. ✨

Beyond grateful to an incredible crew of volunteers who came together with passion, sweat, and a whole lot of determination to install over 1,300 feet of fencing—a massive effort to protect our growing crops and ensure a thriving harvest.

From early mornings to late afternoons, this crew and more showed up, dug deep (literally!), and turned vision into reality. This fence isn’t just wire and posts—it’s a symbol of community, care, and commitment.

Thank you to Matt, David, Rusty, and Eric for your gifts and skills of hammering, hauling, and measuring!

It’s been a full and fruitful few weeks at the Heartwood Seed Project! 🌱

Thanks to our amazing volunteers, we’ve made huge progress—installing post after post and rolling out the fencing. We're so close to finishing, with just one section to go!

In the meantime, we celebrated a sweet milestone—harvesting six gorgeous watermelons 🍉 that went straight to our friends and neighbors at the Hartwood Presbyterian Food Pantry.

And of course, we’ve been giving our berry bushes some love—mowing, fertilizing, and keeping everything well-watered.

Every step forward feels like a win, and we’re so grateful to everyone who’s helped us grow. 💚

🌧️☀️ Rain or shine, this crew shows up!

A huge shoutout to a incredible team of volunteers who spent a few days each week installing large wooden posts to build a fence around our garden.

From muddy boots to sunburned shoulders, they powered through it all—rainstorms and scorching heat—to help protect our growing space from curious wildlife.

Phase 3 will be adding the actual fence!

Thanks to their hard work, our garden will thrive safely, and our harvest will be that much sweeter. 💪🌱

🌧️ The rain really fired up the plants! Our zucchini and yellow squash plants are thriving — so far, we've already harvested over 30 pounds and they’re still going strong! 💪🥒💛

This produce will soon go to neighbors at various church food banks throughout the District!

Your dedication, sweat, and strong spirits made a tough job not only manageable but full of good energy and teamwork.

Tending to those berry bushes in the sun and digging post holes isn't easy work — but you showed up, got your hands dirty, and made a real difference.

Because of you, we’re one step closer to having a thriving, well-protected garden space that our whole community can enjoy.

Monday, June 9, from 9 AM to 2 PM, as we get to work building a perimeter fence to protect our crops from curious critters 🦌🐰 — and help our garden grow strong and safe!

We’ll also be tending to the berry bushes and veggies while we're at it. Whether you’re great with tools or just love getting your hands in the dirt, we’d love to have you with us!
