We’ve shown a lot of videos on nail trims with plenty of pups. All using the same technique!
Down stay, on your side, keep your head resting on the ground. This is a settled down. And it can do amazing things with your dogs headspace.
We’ve had dogs who in the past, would attempt to bite while trimming nails, and now actually fall asleep while we trim their nails and check through their paws.
Dobby’s owners are using the same technique, but for their vet visits! So proud of you guys for doing the work with your dog!

“leave it” teaches a dog to ignore something they want and focus on you instead. It’s one of the most useful impulse-control skills a dog can learn.

The main purposes are:
Safety: Prevents dogs from picking up harmful items such as medications, chocolate, trash, dead animals, or other dangerous objects.
Impulse control: Teaches dogs to resist immediate temptations and wait for permission.
Attention to the handler: The dog learns that disengaging from an object and checking in with you is rewarding.
Better behavior in everyday situations: It can help with chasing wildlife, stealing food, grabbing dropped items, or bothering other dogs and people.
Foundation for advanced training: Many obedience and service-dog programs use “leave it” as a building block for self-control and reliability.

A typical version of the game works like this:
Hold a treat in a closed fist.
Let the dog investigate.
The moment they stop pawing, licking, or trying to get it—even briefly—mark the behavior (“yes!” or a click) and reward with a different treat. Gradually increase the difficulty by using an open hand, placing treats on the floor, or practicing around distractions.
The key idea is that the dog learns: “Ignoring the thing I want gets me something better.” Over time, “leave it” becomes a cue meaning “don’t touch or engage with that; pay attention to me instead.”

Today’s post is a little different. It’s a chance to reflect on the last few months and celebrate a milestone that means a lot to me—reaching 1,000 subscribers on YouTube.

If you had told me a few years ago that I’d be making videos and sharing my passion for dogs with people around the world, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. Yet here we are.

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way—whether you randomly discovered my content online, are one of my clients, or are family and friends who have encouraged me from the very beginning. Every view, comment, like, and conversation has helped me get to this point.

I’m excited to keep educating people about all things dogs and dog training, while continuing to learn and grow myself. This is only the beginning, and I can’t wait to see where the journey goes next. We have even worked with some incredible companies this year doing my first brand deal with & can’t wait to work with even more moving forward!

I’d also love to work with more creators who also work in my industry so tag some of your favorite people!

Reaching 1,000 subscribers is something I’m incredibly grateful for, and my younger self would definitely be proud of how far I’ve come.
