A good dog doesn’t rewrite our past, he redeems it. He reminds us that healing was always meant to come with a companion by our side.

After years of service, Jason Williams found a new kind of strength through his service dog, Gallant. Since being paired, Jason’s life has transformed, from unease in public spaces to calm confidence surrounded by others. When anxiety rises or the weight of depression sets in, Gallant is there, grounding him with quiet assurance. During his darkest moments, Gallant’s presence helped Jason pull back from the edge and keep going. Their bond represents trust, resilience, and the kind of understanding only a true companion can offer.

Today, Jason lives with renewed peace and purpose. He can focus on his family without intrusive thoughts and move through crowds knowing Gallant has his back. Whether at home or serving fellow veterans as a VFW District Commander, Gallant stands proudly by his side, steady, loyal, and always aware. For Jason, a service dog isn’t just assistance, it’s a Battle Buddy who listens without judgment and reminds him he’s never alone. Together, they show what healing truly looks like, one step, one heartbeat, one loyal friend at a time.

We’ve walked the path, faced the battles, and come out stronger, now with a mission to serve, support, and stand beside others. Because we’ve been there, and now we’re here together.

Our Story

Founded in 2018, United States Veterans Service Dogs is a not-for-profit organization created to serve the needs of veterans with disabilities through providing high trained assistance dogs and ongoing support at no cost to the recipients.

USVSD recognized the need for a service dog organization who would provide a variety of service dogs to match the wide array of disabilities that our veterans have. We provide PTSD service dogs for veterans who struggle with the debilitating effects of PTSD; mobility support dogs to help those who need extra assistance getting around or accomplishing day-to-day tasks; medical alert dogs to alert to a medical episode before it happens; hearing alert dogs who respond and alert their handler to sounds and noses they can't hear; and facility dogs who work in healthcare settings to improve the mental and physical health of the patients they work with.

All of our services are provided at no cost to the veterans. Our funding comes from generous contributions of individuals, corporations, foundations, businesses, and service clubs.

PTSD service dogs can provide crowd control tasks, perform Deep Pressure Therapy and Light Pressure Therapy, interrupt anxious behaviors, e.g., scratching, leg shaking, finger tapping, and biting or picking at skin. They can also interrupt night terrors and guide their handler to an exit while in a building.
