I thought having a successful business meant it needed to grow, and it needed to grow fast. My business is successful whether I have one or three buses, because of how I run it and the employees I have. So lucky to have these two girls to take over Haley's bus until she returns. By the end of the year, we will have all three going. Rich in life because I am a woman who owns her own business solely, with no help and no partnership, just a strong and smart brain with four amazing girls behind me. Success can look different in many ways. I am proud of my small business growing at its own pace successfully.

I didn't know it but we have made the Top 5 for Best Of The P*e Dee... am I surprised? Absolutely not. I take pride in my business and I love every client and their pet like they were my own. Does this define a business being nominated? Absolutely not. To all my fellow groomers, you do not need this to realize your talent and worth. We are in an industry where there is a few of us and too many dogs out there.

As I transitioned from vet tech to groomer, I thought I'd left the most emotionally draining experiences behind. The constant exposure to suffering, the scheduled euthanasias, and the devastating losses had taken a toll on my heart. But what I didn't realize was that I was merely exchanging one emotional burden for another. As a groomer, I've built strong bonds with pets and their families over months or years, only to have them slip away. In just the past week, I've sent out multiple sympathy cards, and today I'm preparing to send more. It's heartbreaking to see videos of groomers abusing animals, and I struggle to understand such cruelty. In contrast, my team and I pour our hearts into building relationships with owners and treating their pets like family. But the emotional weight is immense. Being a groomer may not be the most challenging job, but it's certainly not easy. It's a profession that demands physical and emotional stamina. So, to all pet owners, please take a moment to appreciate your groomers - they care deeply for your pets.

Growing up, my mom would always take me to the shelter to volunteer or drop off donations, and this was when the shelter was a mobile office off National Cemetery Road. Throughout my life, I kept volunteering, I started fostering, and my family started rescuing and adopting unwanted and discarded dogs. This turned into my passion for helping animals, and I got my first animal job at SNIP, where we helped all shelters with spaying and neutering. I left SNIP for Cashua Veterinary Care, where I still helped with the shelter dogs and cats. Over the decades, I've rescued and fostered so many animals I can't even count. Future me is here sponsoring one of the biggest events for Florence, SC, to help the shelter. All I can say is, I have the best job with the best employees and the best clients.
