After his very first session with us, the staff at Indianapolis Animal Care Services told us Benji had settled in his suite for the first time ever, and honestly, that's the moment that made all of this feel worth it.

He's a Malinois with energy for days, and when a dog like that has nowhere to put it, the kennel starts working against them. But give them thirty real minutes to move and something shifts. They settle, they sleep, and when someone walks past that kennel they're finally seeing the dog instead of the stress. 💙

We're out at IACS every Sunday running 6 to 10 dogs, and this week Lindsey Monroe and WTHR-TV came along to see it for themselves. 🎥

They also let us clear up what we get asked about a lot: this is a slatmill, not a treadmill. No motor at all, so the dog powers the belt and sets their own pace. Benji hit 11.6 mph and loved it, while one of our pugs needed six sessions before he'd do anything but stand there and yawn at us 😅

Tuesday mornings with Brandy 💗

Every Tuesday, Brandy and I hit the slatmill together. She's gotten so much faster since starting her health kick, but honestly my favourite part is just being with her, playing, laughing, and cuddling after 😆 This girl has my whole heart. 🐾

Say hello to Mo, our handsome hopper! 💗 He's got a cute little hop when he runs, but it sure doesn't stop him from having the time of his life on the slatmill🏃🏻💨

Brandy's on a bit of a health kick lately. Better food, way fewer treats, and she's absolutely thriving on our weekly runs 🏃🏻‍♀️💨

She is also absolutely gorgeous!! 💗

The most common thing we hear is some version of "wait, how does that work."

There's no motor in a slatmill. The belt only moves when the dog moves it, so there's no speed to set and nothing pulling them along. They start when they want, they stop when they want, and they pick the pace the whole way!

Some trot the entire session. Some sprint in bursts. Plenty do both.

We track 14 metrics either way, so after every session you see exactly what your dog did. Top speed, distance, how many minutes they actually spent moving, and how much of that was easy, moderate, or hard effort + so many more!

Most owners have never seen those numbers for their own dog. Ours do, every time.

🐾 SLATMILL SUNDAY at IACS 🐾

First, some wonderful news — Butters and Leo have both been adopted! 🏡💛 We're so happy for them.

Here's a look at today's slatmill crew:

Benji — Energetic and handsome, Benji is completely obsessed with rope toys. He chased his way to a new top speed of 11.9mph today, an improvement from his last session! He loves that rope toy so much it took him a full 15 minutes to finally let it go!

Maki — Sweet, chill, and the ultimate snuggle bug, Maki likes to take things at her own pace. She hit a top speed of 2mph today, up from her last session, and kept a steady rhythm the whole time. She really lights up when the treats come out.

Rachel — Sweet, energetic, and such a hugger. Rachel held a strong, steady pace throughout her session. She's got a lot of energy, but she calms down nicely once the work is done.

Hank — This handsome one-eyed boy is normally sweet and high-energy, but the slatmill brought out a calmer, more timid side of him today. He was a little wary at first and took some time getting his bearings. He even tried walking backward a bit 😂 but he worked through it and walked on his own.

Pipsqueak — Not the biggest fan of the slatmill, but always a fan favorite around here. Instead, we took him to the doggie park for snuggles, toys, and his first try at the agility course. He's such a big bundle of joy and always seems happy no matter what he's doing! 💗
