The flock and I want to take a minute to let you all know what's been going on here at the Sanctuary.

About a month ago we posted on Facebook groups, looking for volunteers. ( We are still searching for at least 2 more) Out of 14 interviews, 5 have continously showed up each week, sometimes multiple days. They have cleaned walls, cages, stands etc. Organized closets, toys, perches. Built new cages, powerwashed cages/stands, carriers. Made foraging boxes. Changed around toys in cages. And even donated to the Sanctuary on top of their time volunteering. And let's not forget the attention they all bring to the birds!!

This all has been a huge relief for us. On top of running this Sanctuary, we also run a dog boarding business. So, time here is very important. The progress we all have made has made me feel like I am not failing the flock. The extra love and care that these amazing people have shown is truly unplayable. A thank you just isnt enough!

Everyone please let Phil, Jess, Kathy, Tim, and Jodi know how much they are appreciated.

We will spoil them all soon!

Come volunteer with us at Spike’s Flying Home Parrot Sanctuary! ❤️

We are a small parrot sanctuary specializing in small species who are sick (non-contagious), traumatized, elderly, handicapped, or otherwise unable to be rehomed. Our birds are NOT adoptable — they live out their remaining lives with us in a calm, structured, loving home environment.

We currently have an amazing group of 5 volunteers helping on different days with cleaning, organizing, setting up toys, cages, and general sanctuary care. However, our Thursday volunteer is currently cleaning cages alone, and we would LOVE to add 2 or more people to help!

🧼 What we need help with:
• Cleaning 14 cages weekly
• Wiping cage bars, perches, and toys
• Changing liners
• Vacuuming & mopping

With 2 people, the work can usually be completed in about 2–3 hours and makes the process much easier on both volunteers AND the birds.

⏰ Time:
• Start as early as 7am
• Must start no later than 9am
• Cages need to be completed before the flock’s bedtime routine begins between 12:30pm–1:30pm

📅 Thursdays are preferred, BUT we are willing to switch days if needed for the right volunteers!

✅ Requirements:
• 18+ only
• Reliable transportation required
• Must be committed, dependable, and responsible

Hi everyone!

Wanted to take a minute and give you an idea of what we spend on food. The attached receipt is for 10 birds in our care currently. They are in liver failure, due to poor diet prior to landing with us. This delivery will last us about 4 to 6 months. This is a prescription diet specifically made to help birds with this medical condition.
Since we are not a non profit, we personally provide finances out of our pockets. This is part of what your donations help with!
