🐾 Small Wins, Big Hearts: Thank You, Farmington ❤️

We’re back from our Petco adoption event with mixed emotions. Out of 13 dogs and 3 cats, we celebrated 4 dog adoptions and 2 cats finding loving forever homes. That’s 6 lives forever changed, and we’re deeply grateful.

To everyone who stopped by, shared our posts, and showed love from afar, thank you. Your support truly matters.

But the truth is: we brought back 9 dogs and 1 cat to a shelter that’s already full. These sweet souls are still waiting, still hopeful, still worthy.

We want to keep celebrating the wins, no matter how small, and push forward for the ones still here. Every like, comment, share, and visit helps open the door to a new future for them.

💬 Please keep following, sharing, and spreading the word.
🏡 Come visit the shelter, your next best friend might be here waiting.

Let’s keep this momentum going, together.

UPDATE: Spike is in Foster-to-Adopt!

Introducing Spike: the smart, splash-loving Heeler mix who’s ready for a job and a buddy. 🐾💦

Farmington Animal Shelter | Adoptable Dog Spotlight

Meet Spike, a 2.5-year-old American Blue Heeler mix with striking black-and-grey markings and a heart set on working by your side. Weighing in at 47 lbs, Spike is the perfect “medium” for ranch chores, agility fun, or outdoor adventures. 🐕‍🦺

✨ Why Spike stands out
▪️Work-driven brain: Heelers thrive on tasks, Spike will ace learning cues, herding, or even nose-work games.
▪️Water fanatic: Hose sprays and creek splashes make his tail spin like a propeller.
▪️Gentle manners: Sits at your feet, leans in for pets, and checks in often.
▪️Easygoing roommate: Gives space to other dogs, ignores cats, and was calm with a toddler doll.

Spike arrived as a stray on July 19, 2025, but kennel notes show nothing but tail wags and a soft body. With the right job and a patient human coach, this clever boy will shine.

📍 Come meet Spike: 133 Browning Pkwy, Farmington, NM
📞 Questions / schedule a meet: (505) 599-1098

Please like, share, and comment to help Spike find the active partner he deserves. One share might match him with the ranch, trail, or backyard he’s dreaming of. 🌄❤️

💧 July is National Pet Hydration Awareness Month, let’s keep every tail wagging and every purr happy!

Summer temps in the Four Corners can top 90 °F, and new research shows dog mortality rises nearly 10 % on extreme-heat days above 32 °C (89.6 °F).

Dehydration is the first domino that can tip into heatstroke. Cases jump 5× in very hot weather.

How much water does my pet really need?
🐶 Dogs: ~ 60–80 ml per kg body weight daily (about 1 oz per lb).
😸 Cats: ~ 40–60 ml per kg. Cats on dry food need the upper end of that range.

Quick at-home hydration check 💧
▪️Pinch the skin between your pet’s shoulders. If it takes more than a second to snap back, dehydration may be brewing.
▪️Sticky gums, sunken eyes, or listlessness? Call your vet, fluid therapy saves lives.

Pro tips to keep the bowl full & your buddy cool 🧊
▪️Multiple water stations (indoor & shaded outdoor).
▪️Pet fountains, flowing water entices picky drinkers.
▪️Wet food or icy broth cubes for extra moisture.
▪️Post-play cool-down: Many dogs love dunking their heads, an AVMA-backed fast-cooling hack.
▪️Never leave pets in parked cars, temps soar in minutes.

🏠 Thinking about adding a hydrated, happy companion to your family? Swing by Farmington Animal Shelter, and adopters from Durango to the Navajo Nation are welcome!
