🎆 FIREWORKS —💥 The Fourth of July is one of the highest risk nights for pets to go missing. Don’t assume your dog is immune — fear can override even the best training. Since people like to celebrate before and after July 4th,

✅ DO THIS NOW:
🐾 Walk your dog before dark
🐾 Close ALL doggy doors
🐾 Quadruple check gates — latch, lock, bungee, zip tie — whatever it takes
🐾 Make sure collars are secure and tags are up-to-date
🐾 Ensure microchip info is current
🐾 Create a safe indoor space with white noise, calming music, or a fan
🐾 Leaving home? Maybe find (or hire) someone to stay with your dog.

🚨 If your dog goes missing:
📍 Do NOT chase if they bolt. Chasing will only push them further away.

📍 Report the loss to your microchip company immediately

The Running of the Chihuahuas at The Wharf
May 3, 2-5 p.m.

The Running of the Chihuahuas at The Wharf has become quite the event in recent years. Dubbed a “fur-filled” spectacular, expect to see an all-breed costume contest, adoptable pet parade, and of course the running of over 150 Chihuahuas. They’ll race in groups of eight on a 60-foot racetrack. Race proceeds benefit Rural Dog Rescue. 35 Sutton Sq. SW, Washington, DC, free

Running of the Chihuahuas is a free, family-friendly event on May 3, 2025 that features over 100 chihuahuas racing at The Wharf.
