Dogs Helping Dogs!

We are honored to have been selected by Companions, Inc. to receive a special award!

Here is our amazing ANRV crew, Hazel Trettevik, Alisha Thomas, and Dr. Bernie Eberle, alongside Daisy Huang and other members of the Companions, Inc. team as they present us with the giant check!

Companions, Inc. is a wonderful Fairbanks nonprofit celebrating 40 years of bringing the comfort, companionship, and joy of therapy animals to people in hospitals, nursing homes, senior centers, schools, libraries, and other community settings.

We appreciate the connection between our organizations. Companions, Inc. brings comfort and companionship to people through animals, while ANRV brings compassionate, nonjudgmental veterinary care to pets and the people who love them in rural Alaska. It's kind of like dogs helping dogs!

We were also happy to see Alaska Spay/Neuter Assistance recognized as another recipient of their generosity. What a wonderful way to support organizations making a difference for animals and people across Alaska!

A big thank you to Companions, Inc. for their generosity,
Daisy Huang for the adorable dog costume photos, and Kris Capps at the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner for the wonderful story and photo coverage!

We are truly honored and grateful!

Canceled flight = boat ride!!

Our flight from Kwethluk canceled yesterday because of weather but the communities made sure we got to Akiachak by boat!

We were a little nervous traveling on the river in the fog but they told us not to worry because the boat captains are hunters and comfortable traveling in rough weather!!

Foggy snowy boat ride, we are safe, happy to be here and ready to get our work done before the big storm hits tomorrow!!

Thank you Kwethluk & Akiachak for your kindness & hospitality as always and thank you to our amazing new partner Veterinarians without Borders!!!

We are happy to share that Christian Veterinary Mission (CVM) will be returning to the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta next week!

Tentative dates, weather permitting:

Chevak: October 18–19
Alakanuk: October 20–21
Emmonak: Possibly, if time allows. If not, we’ll try to return later this winter.

Dr. Wages and the Christian Veterinary Mission have been serving the Kuskokwim region since 2012, and they are amazing! They travel to Alaska and also spend time serving the Cherokee and Navajo across the Southwest.

Dr. Wages has been a tremendous help to ANRV, and it’s an honor to have worked alongside her all these years. We share a commitment to a community-driven approach and providing veterinary care in a compassionate, nonjudgmental way.

We’re grateful to Dr. Wages and the entire CVM team for their continued dedication to the communities, and we’re happy to see them returning to the region to provide this important work!

We have some exciting news to share!

After waiting out the weather, we’re finally planning our trip back out to the beautiful Kuskokwim! We’re hoping to be in Kwethluk October 19–20 and Akiachak October 22–23, and we can’t wait to see everyone again!

These are two of our very favorite villages! Kwethluk and Akiachak were the first villages ANRV visited when we began in 2012, and we’ve been fortunate to be able to come back. These communities hold a very special place in our hearts!

We’re also thrilled to announce that ANRV will be partnering with Veterinarians without Borders! They share a similar mission to ours, providing veterinary care to communities around the world, including remote communities in Canada.

We’re excited about this new partnership with a group that shares our commitment to compassionate, nonjudgmental veterinary care. A new partnership, but the same caring, community-centered approach that has always been at the heart of ANRV!

We were so happy to be asked to help with the pet food donations following the Mukluk Fire in Tok.

Our hearts are with the families and animals who have lost their homes. We are thankful to be a small part of making sure these animals have food and care during such a difficult time, and to give their owners one less thing to worry about.

A very special thank you to Golden Heart Veterinary Services, Cold Spot - for Healthy Pets, Alaska Feed, Humane World for Animals, the Red Cross, Northern Alaska Regional Organizations Active in Disaster (NARVOAD), Tok Community Members, Tok Dog Mushers Association, Raven Veterinary Clinic "Tok Vet" and Alaska Equine Rescue for coming together to help make this possible.

Alaska Equine Rescue is also in the process of gathering hay and hay nets to help the animals affected by the fire. Please contact them if you would like to help or donate hay.

Thank you also to the Thurneau family rescue in Tok for the hands-on work you are doing to help care for the animals affected by the fire. Local families stepping up to help during a difficult time means so much.

And a huge thank you to our amazing veterinarian, Dr. Bernie Eberle, who spent his day off unloading two truckloads of animal feed — by himself! We thought there would be a forklift! We are so grateful for his willingness to always step up and help when animals and communities need it most.

It truly takes so many people, organizations, and communities coming together during times like these. We are grateful to everyone who has stepped up to help the animals and families of Tok.

Together we can make a difference!

Alaska Native Rural Veterinary, Inc. is excited to partner with Petco Love in their commitment to distribute 1 million free pet vaccines and help prevent life-threatening diseases in pets across the country.

In rural Alaska, access to veterinary care and preventive vaccines can be challenging, especially in remote communities. Diseases like parvovirus and distemper can have a devastating impact on dogs, making vaccination one of the most important tools we have to protect pets and help prevent the spread of disease.

These vaccines help protect individual pets while also strengthening disease prevention across entire communities.

We are incredibly grateful to Petco Love for helping us make preventive veterinary care more accessible to pets and families throughout rural Alaska. Together, we can help keep pets healthier, prevent the spread of serious disease, and save more pet lives.
