KEEP THEM INSIDE
Many lost dog reports begin with the same sentence:
"He's never done that before."
The truth is that fireworks can cause even the calmest dog to panic. A dog that has never escaped before may suddenly jump a fence, squeeze through a gate, or bolt through an open door when startled.
Every year, shelters fill with lost pets after Fourth of July celebrations. Shelter staff work tirelessly to reunite families, while rescues are often asked to help make room for incoming stray dogs.

✅ Bring pets inside before fireworks begin
✅ Close windows, curtains, and blinds
✅ Turn on fans, TV, or calming music to mask noise
✅ Make sure everyone in the home knows to be extra careful with doors
✅ Keep collars and ID tags on, even indoors
✅ Stay home with anxious pets whenever possible
Fireworks may only last a few hours, but the impact on a frightened dog can last much longer.
