You might be a foster if…

❤️ You already move over on the couch so the dog has more room
❤️ You say hi to every dog before every human
❤️ Your camera roll is mostly dog photos
❤️ You’ve ever seen one of our posts and thought… “I wish I could help.”
❤️ You believe temporary love can still change a life forever

The truth is… fostering doesn’t require perfection.

You don’t need to have all the answers.
You don’t need a huge house.
You don’t need to commit forever.

You just need space in your home—and room in your heart. ❤️

If you’ve been thinking about fostering, we’d love to talk with you.

Going into the weekend with one simple question…

Could you make room for one more?

One extra dog bed.
One leash by the door.
One more set of paws in the house.
One dog who just needs a safe place to land while they wait for forever.

Right now, dogs in Retriever Rescue of Colorado are waiting for foster homes—some for just a short stay, others a little longer while they search for their forever family.

Fostering doesn’t have to be forever to change everything for them.

A weekend can spark a conversation.
A share can help us find the right home.
A “yes” can save a life.

Could your home be part of a dog’s next chapter? ❤️

Meet Anselmo 💛

We’re so honored to introduce this incredibly special little guy to the Retriever Rescue of Colorado community.

Anselmo is just 3 years old, and despite everything he’s been through, he remains one of the sweetest, kindest, most loving dogs you could ever meet. He has been battling some medical challenges since coming into rescue, and as we work hard to get him healthy and feeling his best, his medical care has become extensive. His bills have already climbed far beyond what we typically see for one dog, and we’re asking our amazing village of dog lovers to help us support him through it.

And if you met Anselmo… you’d understand why he’s worth every bit of the fight.

He is the kind of dog who always wants to be close—under your feet in the kitchen, curled up in your lap, or following behind hoping for a gentle pat or a treat. He adores being with his people. He loves going for short walks with his foster brother and sister around the neighborhood.

No matter how he’s feeling, his tail is almost always wagging.

He loves rolling in freshly cut grass—or wet grass—but don’t be fooled… a little rain sprinkle from the sky? Absolutely unacceptable according to Anselmo.

His favorite thing in the world is simply being with his family. He is trusting. Easygoing. Gentle. Sweet beyond words.

As his foster mom, I’ve had the privilege of watching him face so much with so much grace. Through vet visits, treatments, hard days, and uncertainty… he still greets me with a wagging tail and that hopeful little smile every single time.

Sweet really is the best word to describe him.

As we work through this next chapter of getting Anselmo healthy, we’re hoping our community might rally around him. If you’re able to donate toward his medical care, every dollar helps—and every share helps too.

I’m going to keep sharing more of Anselmo’s story with you along the way. Because this little guy is truly something special, and he deserves a whole community cheering him on.

Thank you for loving him with us. 💛

Because Someone Said Yes ❤️🐾

Every rescue dog has a story before they find their forever family.

And almost every one of those stories includes someone who said yes to fostering.

Yes to opening their home.
Yes to sharing their couch.
Yes to early mornings, walks, toys on the floor, and muddy paw prints.
Yes to loving a dog that isn’t theirs—yet.

Because someone fostered…
a dog got out of a shelter.
a dog got to decompress.
a dog learned what home feels like.
a dog got a second chance.

Fosters are where so many happy endings begin, and we’re so grateful for every person who says yes. ❤️

Could you be part of the next rescue story?

✨ Ready for her family to find her… meet Melanie! ✨

Melanie is a happy 6-year-old gal with a big smile and so much love to give. She’s ready to find a forever family to call her own. 💛

Melanie would love a home with someone who enjoys getting outside—walks are one of her favorite things! She’s working on shedding a few pounds, so a family who can help keep her moving with daily strolls and adventures would be a perfect match.

She’s also good with other dogs and enjoys having canine friends around.

If you’re looking for a sweet, happy companion to join you on walks and then relax by your side after, Melanie may be your girl. 🐾

Ready to meet Melanie? Apply today!

🐾 Urgent Foster Needed — Help Save Her Life 🐾

We need a foster home to help save this sweet girl’s life. She needs a safe place to land so we can get her safely out of the shelter—and right now, we can’t do that without a foster stepping up.

This beautiful 3-year-old, 80-pound Collie/Golden mix is looking for someone to open their home and heart to her while she waits for her forever family.

She loves other dogs and would likely do great with a canine companion. She can be a little timid when meeting new people, but she warms up quickly once she feels safe and comfortable. Beneath that shy first hello is a very sweet girl just looking for someone she can trust.

Because she came into the shelter as a stray, we’re still learning about her and don’t yet know how she does with kids or cats.

Right now, what she needs most is a foster willing to give her a chance. A safe place to decompress. A soft bed. A little patience. And someone willing to say “yes” so we can bring her to safety.

Fostering will save her life.

If you’ve ever thought about fostering, please consider opening your home for her. 💛

Apply to foster through Retriever Rescue of Colorado or send us a message with any questions.

When people hear “foster,” they sometimes think it means making a huge commitment.

But fostering often looks a lot simpler than that.

It’s a soft bed in the corner.
A walk around the block.
A quiet place to decompress.
A ride to an adoption event.
A warm home while they wait.

Some of our dogs need a foster for just a short time. Others need a little longer while they search for their forever family.

No matter how long, fostering gives them something they may not have had before:

stability, comfort, and someone in their corner. ❤️

You don’t have to commit forever to make a life-changing difference.

Could fostering be a fit for your home? We’d love to answer your questions.

✨ Ready to Meet Gemma? ✨

If you’re looking for a fun, playful best friend, Gemma might be your girl. 💛

This spunky pup is full of personality and is ready to find a family to call her own. Gemma would do best in a home with another dog—having a canine buddy helps her feel confident and brings out her playful side.

She’s crate trained and does well in her crate when she can see her people nearby. When left home alone, she’ll do best with some alternative setup and a family willing to continue helping her build confidence as she settles in.

Gemma is still very much a puppy at heart, so she’s looking for an active home ready to keep her moving, learning, and having fun. Walks, playtime, adventures, doggy daycare… she’s in. And if you hand her a frozen stuffed Kong? You’ll definitely win extra points. 🐾

Gemma is ready for a family who will give her patience, love, and the chance to keep blossoming into the amazing dog she already is.

Ready to make Gemma part of your family? Apply today! 💛

Foster Needed Thursday–Monday 🐾
This sweet senior boy arrives Thursday and needs a short-term foster home until Monday.
He’s one of two dogs surrendered because his owners said he was “too old.” Now he just needs a safe place to land while he waits for his next home.
A warm bed. A soft spot to rest. A few days of love.
Can you help give this gentleman a landing place for the weekend?
Please message Retriever Rescue of Colorado if you can foster.
