I’m caring for my dad’s 14-year-old jack mix this month. Last night Cheyenne startled my dog awake and he lunged and connected with Cheyenne’s eye. It happened in a micro second. It’s super important to help dogs feel safe and to do what you can to reduce fear at vet visits. Cheyenne is a picky eater so I’ve chopped up some turkey and some string cheese. I also made some mini lick mats with creamed cheese because licking is calming for dogs. Wish us luck!

Meet Logan! Logan is an 8-year-old Australian Shepherd who needs a little help finding his zen. As someone who also owns an Aussie who once needed help finding his zen, I have a big soft spot for this handsome man. We are working on confidence building and giving Logan a job to do. We aren’t doing a whole lot of training (some, but not a lot) with this beautiful guy, instead we are working on scent work, foraging activities, and helping Logan understand that when changes happen in his environment, he’s going to be just fine. All of those things helped my guy and I think they will help Logan as well. Logan’s mom is awesome and I know that Logan will do great. This boy learns fast!

Meet Molly! Molly is a labradoodle who is definitely all doodle. She is a little shy at first, but once she gets to know you her doodleness is activated! She’s the sweetest little girl with energy to match her smarts. Her mom has set a great foundation for her. I found some chicken in the freezer that was slightly freezer burned so I boiled it up, chopped it fine, added a couple of cans of dog food, enough water to make a slurry and…MAGIC! This is round two. Round one was 16 popsicle molds, 6 lick mats, and three small kongs. This batch is two small kongs, eleven pupsicle molds, and two lick mats.. We have a new little guy with pretty intense separation anxiety and I’m about to take on my dad’s 14-year-old Jack Russel for a month or more, plus Isaiah, Roo, and Frida. We need all the decompression we can get around here!

Meet Blue! He’s not technically a client, but he is the big brother of Herbert and he definitely needs to be featured. Each week when I show up to help Herbert and his family, I get to have a few minutes to bask in the sweetness of this old man. He gets treats just for being such a good boy his entire life. Meet Herbert. Herbert is packed full of vim and vigor. Herbert has boundless enthusiasm that is only matched by his boundless energy. This wildly handsome boy has a LOT of big feelings about pretty much everything. Balls? YAY! Food? YAY! Play? YAY! His humans? YAY! Other dogs when out on walks? BOO! Walking calmly on leash? BOO! We will be helping Herbert manage his big feelings when it comes to other dogs and we will also help him learn to walk with a little less vim and a little more calm when on leash. We won’t, however, be squelching his pure joy at just being alive in this world filled with treats and balls and tug toys and a loving family.

Meet Linus (white) and Lilly (golden)! These two adorable rescue dogs have a bit of fear they need to work through. In addition, Ms Lilly has some pretty big feelings about people coming into her home. Technically Lilly is my client, but there is no way Linus isn’t coming along for the ride. How could anyone not want Linus in their class? We will be working on confidence building with both kiddos, plus reactivity training, muzzle work, and a few basic manners with Lilly. Our agenda includes pattern games, enrichment activities, and some amazing Family Dog Mediator hacks. And of course we will use lots of management. Before I even met them, Lilly and Linus’s parents set up Club Med for them to go to when Lilly’s big feelings get the best of her. I’m proud to say I’ve been hired on as the activity director of their private Club Med! They are both so lucky to have dog parents who are so dedicated to them.

It’s been a minute since I’ve been on social media. I’m a dog trainer, but not so much a social media guru. I’ve been busy though! Business has been good. My clients are the very best and we’ve had a lot of successes. I just got this update from a client. The goal was to help rescue dog, Luna the GSD, learn to live peacefully with Litto the kitty. German Shepherds are a herding breed and sometimes the urge to chase can overcome their better judgment, but Luna is a gentle soul who quickly learned to squelch the need to control motion. It didn’t take her long to learn that Litto is an excellent cuddle buddy. Look at these two!

I had a Meet and Greet with this handsome man today! Hopefully his parents and I will be working together soon to help Rutt deal with his big feelings about other dogs. He’s the sweetest boy you’ll ever meet when it comes to humans.
