In need of a new home: Maddie, F, is an about 7-year-old about, 14-pound, super cute and affectionate terrier mix. Maddie is a sweet, generally confident dog who will need to adjust to rehoming. Location: Everett, Wash.
I can offer a free training consult to her adopter to help her settle in and avoid known issues.
Maddie was previously a fearful rescue. She bonded well and gained confidence living years in her home as the sole dog with a senior couple. She is beloved, but the couple have had medical issues, are struggling to meet her needs for exercise and potty breaks, and with great sadness have decided to rehome her.
Maddie has bitten (with punctures) the male in the home when he was trying to move her from the bed or couch or passing by these locations carrying objects. She does give warning signals and growls.
Maddie is very bonded to her person (the female in the home) and prefers to be by her side. At the retirement community where she now lives, she is well-known, relaxed when out and about and approaches and accepts pets from everyone she meets.
In Maddie’s ideal home, she would continue to be doted upon by a gentle person. She likes affection, walking around with a cute prance in her step, snuggles, and the occasional zoomie. She walks well on lead. No pulling. She does well with baths and grooming.
She could do OK with another small dog (she usually approaches, sniffs, and shows mild interest), however her preference would likely be to be the only dog. She has not lived with cats before, but might do OK with a confident dog-savvy cat. No large dogs or children in the home.
Maddie currently lives in an apartment and this works for her. While she would certainly love a yard, it would need to be well-secured (she has found holes in fences and escaped through them in the past).
No medical or health issues. She’s not on any medications. She’s active with good mobility (can walk to the park, runs up flights of stairs, can jump up on furniture).
