Hey, friends! Therapist Laura here. I just want to give an update on our online auction for the Rainey Day Fund that we intended to run last week. I have been under the weather for the past couple weeks and not able to get it all prepared In time. We will still be having it, but as our friends at PAAWS No-Kill Animal Rescue are having their fundraising auction the 6th through the 13th and our other good friends at Warrick Humane Society are having theirs starting the 20th. We will plan to have ours that week in between the 13th through the 20th. We have had several more items donated so we will give updates on all the new items and if anyone still would like to donate an item we would like to have all of those in by friday the 12th if possible. Thanks for your understanding. We will have updates soon.💕🐕🌊

🐶👂 How to Clean Your Dog’s Ears Safely

Healthy ears are an important part of your dog’s overall well-being. Regular ear checks can help prevent infections, discomfort, and long-term problems.

✅ Signs of a healthy ear:
• Light pink skin
• Clean and odor-free
• Minimal wax
• No redness or discharge

⚠️ Signs something may be wrong:
• Dark wax buildup
• Strong or unpleasant odor
• Redness or irritation
• Thick or unusual discharge

🧼 How to clean your dog’s ears correctly:

1️⃣ Use a dog-safe ear cleanser
Apply the cleaner into the ear canal as directed. Gently massage the base of the ear for 20–30 seconds, then let your dog shake its head naturally.

2️⃣ Avoid cotton swabs
Cotton swabs can push debris deeper into the ear canal and may cause irritation or injury.

3️⃣ Don’t pour water into the ears
Excess moisture can encourage bacteria and yeast growth, increasing the risk of infection.

👀 When to contact a veterinarian:
• Persistent bad odor
• Excessive dark wax
• Frequent scratching or head shaking
• Red, swollen, or painful ears
• Sudden behavior or appetite changes

🐾 Regular ear care helps keep dogs comfortable, healthy, and happy. If you notice anything unusual, a veterinarian can determine whether there’s an infection, allergy, mites, or another issue that needs treatment.

‼We are seeing an unusually heavy tick season this year‼

Although our turf daycare yards help minimize tick exposure at Santa Paws, dogs can easily pick up ticks from outdoor activities such as walks, parks, wooded areas, trails, campgrounds, and grassy spaces around home.

Keeping your dog on a veterinarian-recommended flea & tick preventative and doing routine tick checks are some of the best ways to help protect them this season.

For the health and comfort of all of our guests, WE DO REQUIRE DAYCARE AND BOARDING DOGS TO BE ON FLEA AND TICK PREVENTION. If a dog is consistently arriving with fleas or ticks present, we may ask that they be picked up and remain home until the issue has been resolved and they are properly protected with preventative medication.
