How it started ➡️ how it’s going!!!!
Our sweet Finch came to us back in December, totally afraid of the world and of us. An amazing human spent 3 weeks trying to trap her in Harvey, where she was on the run living outside, finding shelter in abandoned homes alongside another dog. She was skinny, fearful, and had not known the security of a warm bed and consistent meals. Finch most likely hadn’t spent a whole lot of time around people, and it took us showing up for her day after day to earn her trust. Eventually she trusted us enough to bring her down the hall for a routine checkup in the med suite, and boy did we all get a surprise… Finch was pregnant! And very far along.
Luckily for Finch, this meant she got to trade a noisy kennel for our brand new maternity room! She spent the winter being the most selfless mama to six beautiful girls. She gave them everything she had: her strength, her warmth, and her protection. In March, they all "flew the nest," and for the first time in her life, Finch gets to just be... Finch.
Just over a week ago, Finch went into a temporary foster home to get a break from the shelter. In her foster home, she’s a completely different dog from the girl we met in December! She is goofy, playful, affectionate, and even a bit mischievous. She’s living with a four legged foster sibling, and we think she’d do best in a home with another dog, or at least with a family who has lots of dog friends she could play with from time to time!
Finch has spent her whole life looking out for others — first her companion on the streets, then her six babies. Now, we are looking for the person who will finally look out for *her*. With her foster arrangement ending soon, we’d love to help Finch find forever ASAP!
