Companion Animal Foundation

Companion Animal Foundation Our Community Adoption Center is a place for enjoyment and education. We love being able to provide this unique experience to our community!

Companion Animal Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue organization formed in 2002 in response to the high euthanasia rate of adoptable animals in Humboldt County. This is where we keep our healthy adoptable kittens (and pups) so that the public can help them socialize by visiting during open hours. The Community Adoption Center is currently open to the public from 12-4 on Wednesday, 1-

6 on Thursday, 12-4 on Friday and 11-3 on Saturday. Our hours change in the winter (usually in January) so please call us at 707-296-4629 to check that we are open before you come by. We often have puppies so if you’re looking to adopt a pup, please call ahead to check and see what we have. The puppies are available to visit during the same hours. We are more than happy to let adult visitors take the puppies on walks if they have time! Visiting is available to all ages, but anyone under 16 years of age needs to be accompanied by an adult guardian. All adult visitors need to provide a photo ID before entering the adoption room and please plan on leaving your photo ID with a staff person if you want to take our puppies for a walk.

This is courtesy post for a community member who has had a series of tragic events and is not able to keep Abbie.

Abbie is a sweet bulldog/dachshund mixed breed dog. She is six years old and weighs about 50 pounds. She has the cutest short legs! She is a wonderful companion, attentive and spunky. She can be protective when strangers approach.
She gets along with other dogs who are respectful of her space. She is fine with children. However, she needs to be in a cat free home.
Abbie is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and house trained.
Sadly, Abbie has been diagnosed with a Mast Cell Tumor (MCT) over her right eye (most visible in the third photo). Surgery has been recommended by her vet. Their estimate is around $1500, which her guardian cannot afford. It is a big ask for someone to adopt her, but this lovely 6 year old deserves a chance at more years of life and love.
There may be a rehoming fee, but that depends on the willingness of an adopter to attend to her medical needs.
Abbie is living in her current home. Please contact Liz at 707 496-9623 or [email protected] for more information or to arrange a meet and greet.
Please share. Let's find this girl a new furever home.

Hi wonderful supporters,
A local elderly person is having surgery on June 10. He has 2 older dogs, a female Juno and male Buddy.
These sweet dogs will need a calm, quiet foster home for 2 to 3 weeks while he recovers as he will be unable to walk them. They walk fine on a leash although Juno does pull a bit. They are ok left alone for short periods of time; reportedly they do not have any separation anxiety. They ride well in a car. Juno does not do well with other female dogs and Buddy is spooked by children. They are bonded and need to stay together.
They are healthy and up to date on vaccines. Their food will be provided for their stay.
If you could foster them or have any ideas, please contact Liz at 707 496-9623 or [email protected].
Please share.
Thank you!

Here's a wonderful pair of brothers, Cyril and Bruce, ready for their furever home.
These bonded brothers are magnificent silver tabby long-haired beauties! They will charm you with their sweet dispositions and joyful spirits. Bruce is more outgoing and social than his brother Cyril, who takes longer to warm up to visitors. Cyril can often be found lounging in the catio, while Bruce is likely to be in the cat room waiting to meet new people and get pets. They are probably close to a year old. They likely get along with other kitties as they were rescued from a colony of cats. They could adapt to a dog who is respectful of their space!
This darling pair are neutered, fully litter box trained, and will be microchipped, negative for FIV/FELV and up to date on their vaccines before adoption.
There is an adoption fee for these boys.
Please come meet them at our adoption center at 3954 Jacobs Ave., just north of Eureka off Highway 101.
We are open Wednesday through Friday from noon to four and Saturday 11 to 3.
Please share.
Thanks!

Reposting!
Kitty Grace needs a furever home.
I'm posting lovely gray and white girl Grace in hopes of finding her new loving home. Look at those eyes!!
Grace is thought to be a young adult between 1 and 2 years old. In a calm environment Grace is quite snuggly and loving, welcoming pets on her velvety coat. However, she is also an independent girl.
Grace gets overstimulated in our adoption center environment. She can get snarky and reactive when she gets overwhelmed. She has a mind of her own and needs a person who can read her moods and cues. She is seeking a quiet home without young children. She needs to be the only cat in the home and she is afraid of dogs. Her ideal setting would be a safe outside space with access to indoors at night for security and snuggles.
Grace is spayed, up to date on vaccines, FIV/FELV negative, fully litter box trained, and will be microchipped before adoption.
There is a adoption fee for her.
Please come meet her at Companion Animal Foundation community adoption center at 3954 Jacobs Ave, just north of Eureka, Wed through Friday noon to four and Saturday 11 to 3. Call 707 296-4629 or email CAF at [email protected] for more information.

She currently resides at Companion Animal Foundation community adoption center.

Boscoe has found a wonderful new home!!

A community member is looking for a new home for Boscoe.
This wonderful senior minpin is looking for his forever home. Bosco is 11 or 12 years old and weighs about 20 pounds. He is a very sweet dog who loves all people and kids. This darling is happiest sitting beside his person on the couch overseeing whatever projects or tv shows you have going on. He is not into toys but loves chewy treats like smoked bones, pigs ears, and bully sticks.
He could likely adapt fine to a home with cats. He will sometimes chase them but has never been aggressive towards them and he does learn to not chase. Full disclosure, he is a top fan of kitty roca so the litter box will need to be out of his reach!
He is all bark and no bite around big dogs, but does need a home with no large dogs.
Boscoe has had a traumatic and tragic life so he has some quirks. He does not do well closed in a room without a person. He can be territorial until he is comfortable. He loves trash so no access to trash cans! Good news, he is receptive to training and is highly treat motivated.
He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative and on Heartguard medication, and microchipped. Boscoe is house trained although because he is a senior with an old man bladder he requires frequent potty breaks.
His rehoming fee is $150.
Please contact Liz at 707 496-9623 or [email protected] for more information or to arrange a meet and greet. .
Please share.
Thanks.

Can you post our three male pups surrendered to Miranda’s May 2024!? We paid $1,400 to get them neutered and cared for until adopted.
