Infectious tracheobronchitis, commonly known as kennel cough, is a complex of infections rather than infection by a single agent. Find out how infection occurs, how serious it may be, how it is treated, and understand the vaccination.

The 4th is right on top of us!
Please try not to leave your animals unattended for the next few days and nights if you can.
If you take them out in the yard to potty, try to stay with them, even leash them and walk around with them in case those random fireworks go off.
Bring as many pets inside, in a secure room / area with a tv / radio on to drown out the sounds of the BOOMS / BANGS / CRACKLES.
Please make sure your pets have collars and tags with current and correct contact info in case an accident happens and they escape.
No collars or tags? No microchip?
Take a permanent felt tip pen and write your contact number on their belly, hooves, ears as a back up.
There is still time to prepare!

We are having another vaccination clinic this coming Sunday, the 16th at the same location as our previous clinic!

The event will be held outdoors in front of 35 W Third St. in Eureka., from 12-2 PM. We will be vaccinating for Distemper/Parvo, giving out flea medication and dog food. If you are low income or do not have any income at all, we welcome you to drop by!

Humans are required to wear facial coverings, and dogs are required to be leashed. Please respect both people and dogs' personal space by maintaining six foot social distancing.

See you there!

"We believe that these [harmful algae blooms] are a result of fire damage, fire-fighting methods, and agriculture practices, but have not discovered a point source, as the HAB’s have been found in multiple watershed areas."

Hey everyone, it’s that time of the year again...

Just a reminder that harbor seal pupping season is upon us here in Humboldt and Del Norte counties. If you find a seal pup on the beach, do NOT touch it! Please keep your distance and keep all pets leashed. Most likely it’s mom is foraging offshore and knows exactly where she left her pup and she will not return if people and/or animals are near. If you do happen to come across one of these cuties, please call our stranding line at (707)951-4722 or you can use the ‘call now’ feature linked at the top of our page. We also ask that you take a moment to share this information with all your friends.

FDA is alerting pet owners & veterinary professionals about certain lots of Sportmix pet food products which may contain potentially fatal levels of aflatoxin.

While our park rules do not specifically prohibit bringing treats into the park (unless you interpret the "no food" rule to include dog treats, which some do), please use good judgement. NEVER toss a treat or give a treat to someone else's dog without specific permission. For all kinds of reasons from food allergies to health problems to food guarding, it is just not a good idea. Dogs can be having a great time playing until food/treats are added to the mix, then you can have problems. Contrary to what some folks think, dogs do not need to have treats available to them wherever they go.

Want to donate items and shop locally? We have collection bins distributed at pet stores/feed shops from Fortuna to McKinleyville to help
you give a little extra love to the pets at this time of year. With our shelter being closed to the public at this time, a little something extra can mean so much to our cats and dogs while they wait to be taken home. 💖
