🐾 Teaching Tuesday: What Is a Medical Rescue? 🩺❤️
When most people think about rescue, they picture dogs waiting in shelters for a family. But sometimes, the dogs who need us most are the ones with medical needs that make them harder to place.
These are called medical rescue cases—dogs we bring into our program knowing they will need extra veterinary care, rehabilitation, time, and resources.
Meet Fenrick, a 14-week-old Jack Russell mix. When he came to us, we already knew he had an old injury to his jaw. He didn’t come with a clean bill of health—but he came with a future worth fighting for.
Then there’s Grandpa Smokey, who arrived as a senior dog, severely underweight and in desperate need of care. We knew from the beginning that helping him would be a journey, not a quick turnaround.
When we say yes to dogs like Fenrick and Smokey, we know they may stay with us longer. We know their veterinary bills may be higher. We know they will require extra patience, specialized care, and a foster or adopter willing to see beyond their medical challenges.
So why do we do it?
Because every dog deserves the chance to heal.
Because an old injury, a senior body, or a medical diagnosis doesn’t lessen a dog’s worth.
And because sometimes, the dogs everyone else passes by are the ones who need someone to say, “We’ll take it from here.”
Medical rescues are only possible because of our incredible community. Every donation, every foster home, every volunteer, and every share helps us continue saying “yes” when a dog with special needs has nowhere else to go.
