🐾 August 26 is International Dog Day! 🐾

Big dogs. Little dogs. Fluffy dogs. Scruffy dogs.
The perfectly behaved ones… and the ones who have absolutely no regrets. 😂

Today we celebrate the dogs who make us laugh, keep us company, steal our spots on the couch, and somehow become such a huge part of our families. ❤️

Give your pup an extra belly rub, a special treat, or a little more time doing their favorite thing today.

And because we can never see too many dogs… drop a picture of your pup in the comments! 🐶📸

Happy International Dog Day from all of us at Gardner Animal Hospital! 🐾

🐾 Today is Spoil Your Dog Day! 🐾

As if they needed another excuse. 😂

Today’s agenda:
🎾 A new toy they’ll destroy immediately
🚗 A ride with absolutely no destination
❤️ An unreasonable amount of belly rubs
🛏️ And yes… they can have your spot on the couch.

They give us their whole lives, so we think they’ve earned a day of being ridiculously spoiled. 🥰

Tell us — what’s the silliest way you spoil your dog? 👇🐶

🦟 Protect your pets from fleas, ticks & heartworms! 🐾

If it seems like fleas and ticks are worse this year, you’re not imagining it. Warm temperatures and plenty of rain have created the perfect environment for parasites to thrive.

The good news? We have convenient prevention options to fit your pet’s lifestyle:

💊 Oral preventatives that last 1–3 months
💉 Injectable protection that lasts up to 12 months

Year-round prevention helps protect your pet from:
✔️ Fleas
✔️ Ticks
✔️ Heartworms
✔️ The serious diseases these parasites can carry

Don’t wait until you see a problem—prevention is safer, easier, and much less expensive than treatment.

📞 Call Gardner Animal Hospital at (334) 687-4722 to discuss the best prevention plan for your dog or cat.

🐾 Water Safety Isn’t Just for People! 🌊☀️

Many pets love the water, but swimming isn’t risk-free. Whether you’re headed to the lake, river, or pool this summer, keep these safety tips in mind:

💙 Never assume your pet can swim well—some breeds tire quickly.
🦺 A properly fitted life jacket is a great idea for boating or deep water.
💧 Bring fresh drinking water so they aren’t tempted to drink from lakes or pools.
☀️ Take frequent breaks in the shade to prevent overheating.
👀 Always supervise pets around the water, even strong swimmers.
🚿 Rinse your pet after swimming to remove chlorine, bacteria, or algae.

A little preparation goes a long way toward keeping your furry family members safe all summer long!

☀️🐶 Heat Wave Alert: Protect Your Pets! 🐶☀️

The summer heat can become dangerous for our four-legged family members much faster than many people realize.

Here are a few simple ways to keep your dog safe:
💧 Provide fresh, cool water at all times.
🌳 Limit outdoor activity to early morning or late evening.
🐾 Test the pavement with the back of your hand—if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for their paws.
🚗 Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle, even for a minute.
🥵 Watch for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse.

If you think your pet may be overheating, move them to a cool area, offer cool (not ice-cold) water, and contact your veterinarian immediately.

Stay safe, stay cool, and give your furry friends a little extra TLC during this heat wave! ❤️

🐾 Did You Know? Your Pet May Be Hiding Pain. 🐾

Dogs and cats are experts at masking discomfort. Changes that seem like “just getting older” may actually be signs of pain or illness.

Watch for:
🐶 Slowing down on walks
🐱 Jumping less often
🛏️ Sleeping more than usual
🍽️ Changes in appetite
😠 Irritability or hiding
🦴 Difficulty getting up or climbing stairs

Many conditions—from arthritis to dental disease—can be managed much more effectively when caught early.

If you’ve noticed any changes in your pet’s behavior, give us a call. Sometimes the smallest changes can tell us the most.

❤️ Because pets can’t tell us when they hurt, they count on us to notice.

📞 Contact us to schedule an exam if you have concerns about your pet’s comfort or mobility.

🐾 June is National Microchipping Month! 🐾

A microchip is tiny, but it can make a huge difference. If your pet ever becomes lost, a registered microchip gives them the best chance of finding their way back home. ❤️

✨ Did you know?
• Microchips are not GPS trackers
• They provide permanent identification
• They can help shelters and veterinary clinics quickly reunite lost pets with their families

If your pet isn’t microchipped — or if your contact information has changed — this is your reminder to update it. A few minutes today could mean a lifetime together. 🏡❤️

📞 Call us to schedule your pet’s microchip appointment.
