It’s that time of year, so come celebrate with us!

Sweet Corn Days is right around the corner and we’re so excited for it! Stop by on Friday night during Family Night for a chance to learn to be a Junior Veterinarian! Welcome back to Monday Myth Busters!

The myth of the week… “If a dog is wagging its tail, it must be happy!”

Busted! 💥

Tail wagging doesn’t always mean a friendly dog who wants a new best friend. Wagging could be caused by other heightened emotions due to the environment the dog is in!

Pay attention to the whole body and not just the tail. A loose, wiggly body + relaxed face + soft eyes = happy and friendly pup! A stiff body + high, rigid tail wag + hard stare = your dog may be feeling tense or uncomfortable.

Learning to read your dogs’ body language can help prevent misunderstandings and keep both people and pets safe.

This week is all about cows!

In a recent study, cows were shown to have strong social bonds and often choose to spend time with the same herd mates. These friendships can improve their overall well-being, reduce anxiety, and help them feel safer in their environment. These social bonds can support better immune function, improve feeding behavior, and even boost performance in beef cattle!

Have you ever wondered what it was like helping animals and practicing medicine? Now’s your chance!

Join us at the Emmet County Fair for our Junior Veterinarian in Training Clinic — a free, hands-on experience where kids can step into the boots of a real veterinarian!

Your Junior Vet will…
🐾 Perform a “nose-to-tail” physical exam
🐾 Learn about vaccines and preventative care
🐾 Diagnose their stuffed animal patient
🐾 Bandage injuries and provide treatment
🐾 Graduate with a Junior Veterinarian Certificate!

Bring your curiosity and get ready to become a veterinarian for the day! We will see all our future doctors next week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the Free Fair Games from 1-2pm at the Emmet County Fair!

☀️ Time for another Pet Tip Tuesday! This week…is the sidewalk too hot for a walk? ☀️

Before heading out, check the pavement with the 7-second hand test to see if it is safe for your dog’s paws. Even on a warm day, pavement can become much hotter than the air temperature and can burn a dog’s sensitive paw pads.

To keep your furry friends safe:

🐾 Walk on grass whenever possible
🐾 Plan to walk in the early morning or later evening
🐾 Stick to shaded routes when you can
🐾 Watch for signs like limping, excessive paw licking, or hesitance to walk

Welcome to our Monday Myth Buster series, where we cover common pet care myths and share some facts to keep your animals healthy and happy!

First up…indoor cats and regular vaccinations!

While indoor cats may have a lower risk of exposure, they aren’t completely risk-free. Life is unpredictable, and an accidental escape, new pet or other animals can increase exposure risk. Every cat’s lifestyle is different, so talk with your veterinarians about which vaccines are recommended for your feline companion!
