Southwest Florida House Rabbit Rescue We strive to elevate their status to that of other indoor companion animals. Come support our mission to help these furry friends find a loving home!

SWFL House Rabbit Rescue is a volunteer-driven nonprofit (EIN 47-4984239) dedicated to saving the lives of domestic rabbits through education, advocacy, and adoption. Southwest Florida House Rabbit Rescue was founded in 2015 with a mission to bring "Respect for Rabbits.” We strive to elevate the status of domestic rabbits in our society to the level of other indoor companion animals. Our rescue wo

rks with local animal services, community members, and rescue partners to rescue rabbits from abuse, neglect, hoarding, and abandonment. We are dedicated to saving the lives of domestic rabbits through exceptional education, advocacy, and adoption. We offer comfortable boarding, stress-free bonding, personalized bunny consultations for behavioral issues, and Bunny 101 training for current and aspiring owners. Contact us for fees and more information. Our rescue operates through a loving network of foster homes across Southwest Florida, rather than a central shelter. To meet any rabbits you’re interested in, just give us a call or text to schedule a visit—we’d love to help you meet your future bunny! EIN 47-4984239

We wanted to share just one of the pet store adoption success stories. Pinellas County, FL, approved an ordinance that included a ban on the retail sale of rabbits in pet stores. The ordinance was enacted in June 2022. Since then, we have partnered with Pet Super Market on education, advocacy, and adoptions. This has allowed many rabbits lingering in shelters or set to be euthanized to find loving homes. Although we were skeptical at first about any rabbits being in pet stores, we have been overwhelmingly impressed with their diligence. Our pet store community outreach coordinator, Genny, shared this wonderful story: “One of the pet store happy ending stories. This adopter was originally denied because the store manager was unsure of the person's bonding ability. The pet store called me for advice. This is the ending! Happily ever after! Some of these pet store managers are absolutely amazing!” 🤩

🎄✨ The Christmas season is officially upon us! ✨🎄
With all the holiday decorating comes extra risks for our feathered family members.

Between the electrical cords, twinkling lights, shiny ornaments, ribbons, and pretty wrapping paper, the holidays can be a minefield for curious beaks. But one danger that often gets overlooked? Holiday plants. 🌿🦜

One of the biggest offenders: Poinsettias.
These beautiful, festive plants are often the centerpiece of holiday décor, but they are toxic to parrots and can cause:

⚠️ Gastrointestinal upset
⚠️ Skin and mouth irritation
⚠️ Serious health complications if ingested

And it’s not just birds—poinsettias can make other pets (and even people) sick as well. 🚫🌺

👉 If you share your home with parrots or other animals, please be extra cautious this season.
Sometimes the safest decoration is the one that isn’t there.

Wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and bird-friendly holiday season! ❤️🦜🎁

Hi Friends! Jen, your rescue president here. This is Milton, one of the medical intakes we had last week. He came into our county animal services. He has a spinal injury with hind-end weakness. He had surgery last week on an abscessed testicle. His foster mom Rachel said, “Most would have walked away and said he's too far gone, but this little guy wants to live. Thank you for not counting him out.” If you saw him now, you’d know he’s grateful. It’s in every look he’s giving us. As we celebrate our decade rescue anniversary, our need is greater than ever. As you know, costs for everything have increased, and surrender requests are at record highs. It has been a challenging time to keep going, but we are trying. Trying for rabbits like Milton who want your help and want to live! We hear them, we see them, and we lift them up. All of our donations go directly to the medical care of the rabbits. Myself and the generous foster parents largely pay for daily care and feeding costs. Most of our supplies come from your wonderful deliveries. If you are able to donate even $5, I would be grateful for your kindness. https://www.respectforrabbits.org/donate

I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for those involved in saving Poppy’s life. She was found discarded, neglected and very underweight. Rachelle jumped into action and got her from the nice lady that found her. Poppy is now safe and loved.
