Remember Balsam? Take a look at her incredible progress and happy update! 🐾💚
We first met Balsam in January when brought her in. She was battling Puppy Strangles, coccidia, roundworms, E. coli, and a Staph infection. At the time, we weren’t sure she’d make it.

Nearly two months later, Balsam came back for a skin recheck and was already showing amazing progress, but she still needed medical baths and antibiotics to stay on the right track.

This past month, Balsam returned for a doctor’s visit to be cleared for adoption, and we’re happy to say the doctors found her skin was looking great and completely within normal limits!💚

Now, Balsam has officially found her forever family. Stories like hers remind us how resilient animals can be, and how love, medical care, and patience can truly change a life.🐶✨

It’s Black Fly Season! 🪰🐾

If you notice red blotches or “bull’s-eye” marks on your pet’s stomach or inside their legs — especially after being outside in grassy areas — they are most likely black fly bites.

Although they can look concerning, black fly bites are usually harmless and are considered more of a nuisance than a danger. The bites themselves don’t hurt, but they can be itchy and may cause mild skin irritation. Most bites heal on their own within a few days without treatment.

Black flies are most active in late spring and early summer around sunrise and sunset, so planning outdoor time around those peak periods may help reduce bites. Keeping your pet clean and well-groomed is important, as flies are often more attracted to matted fur and areas closest to the grass, like the belly and legs. If black flies tend to bother your pet, limiting outdoor playtime during heavy fly activity can also help.

Puzzle toys, interactive games, snuffle mats, and slow feeders are great ways to keep your pet mentally stimulated while spending more time indoors!
See reference photos above for progression/healing process of black fly bites. Some extra furry pets, like this one here, may also have additional bites hidden beneath their fur. If you have any concerns or you notice these bites causing your pet significant discomfort, call our clinic at 952-920-9922!
