Here we go again! IF IT IS TOO HOT FOR YOU, IT IS TOO HOT FOR YOUR PETS!
Our local area is expected to experience intensive heat and humidity with temperatures reaching 100 degrees, with a heat index over 110 degrees. Governor Lamont has activated the Extreme Hot Weather Protocol from Thursday, June 30 through Sunday, July 5th.
According to CT Statute 22-350(b) no person shall tether a dog outdoors when a weather advisory or warning is issued by local, state, or federal authorities, unless tethering is for a duration not longer than 15 min.
If you see a pet outside or in a hot car, contact your local authorities, and stay until help arrives.
Limit walking your dog to the early morning or evening when it's cooler. Pavement can easily burn your dog's paws.
Headed to the store? Unless your pet is a certified service animal, leave them at home! It takes just 10 min for a dog to die in a hot car.
Older dogs and brachycephalic dogs (short muzzled dogs such as bulldogs, pugs, Boston terriers etc.) should stay in an air conditioned home when possible. Heat can cause issues with breathing and hydration.
