We are looking for part-time and full-time Pet Care Associates at Wakefield Kennel. Enjoy caring for our vacationing dogs while their human families are away from home. We are seeking energetic pet lovers that are comfortable working within a fast-paced team environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Wakefield Kennel is a high volume dog kennel, with the opportunity to care for many dogs on a daily basis. Responsibilities will include cleaning kennels, feeding, giving medications, exercising dogs, bathing, and monitoring the health status of the dogs. Candidates for this position must be able to care for a large volume of dogs in a busy environment and act as a team player.

REQUIREMENTS

Flexible schedule — We are on duty 7 days a week so a flexible schedule must include weekdays, weekends, and major holidays.

Comfortable with dogs — Our work is very physical in nature and will require handling a variety of active dogs as well as walking, standing, and lifting 40+ lb.

Strong communication skills

Team player attitude

Summer is in full swing and we are honored that you’ve chosen us to care for your dog while you travel. Here are some helpful tips for a great stay 😎🧳📝

WHEN YOU ARRIVE: Our office is currently closed to the public so please give us a call at (434) 973-5171 and we will meet you in our parking lot.

FOOD: We recommend bringing your dog’s regular food. This can help your dog avoid an upset stomach due to a sudden change of diet. Please prepackage it in zip-top bags, one serving per bag. If you prefer, we can serve your dog our house food, Diamond Kibble.

BEDDING: We offer soft fleece blankets which we launder every night. We also offer a deluxe bed for an additional fee. Please do not bring bedding from home.

STAY CALM: Try not to get too emotional when you drop your dog off. This can cause your pet to feel unnecessarily anxious.

FIRST TIME BOARDING: Try to schedule a one or two night vacation for your dog’s first stay, rather than a whole week

EMERGENCY CONTACT: We need a number where we can reach you or your designated emergency contact in the event of an illness or emergency.

QUESTIONS: You can ask us anything, anytime. We are honored that you’ve chosen us to care for your dogs while you are away and we are happy to help answer any questions you may have.
