Genuinely look forward to the daily care tasks for these. Nothing compares to watching baby lizards enthusiastically hunt down crickets. There’s been a few instances of tug-of-war but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how polite they are otherwise!

Overjoyed to have so many babies to dote on!

We’ve had a busy week or so! The sixth and final Varanus primordius egg has pipped, our gidgee gave birth, and we finally introduced our pair of Xenagama wilmsi! 2026 is a year full of firsts for us.

Primo baby #1 moved into their enclosure, baby #2 hanging out in the incubator for 24 hours. Four more to go 🤞🏻

First Varanus primordius out of the egg!

Hatching these might be my greatest achievement to date. Huge thank you to Seven Brooks Lizard Company for fielding my 24/7 questions and anxieties. Evan and I “met” three years ago when I acquired a group of gidgees from him. Since then he has put me on to some of the coolest lizards available in the US, including these. Cautiously optimistic we can keep this species going in the US.

(P.S. One of those gidgees also gave birth this week!)
