Parker's Animal Rescue (formerly Lisa Parker's Puppies) strives to place puppies in the correct home after having them in loving foster homes where they are crate trained, work on house training, and taught basic obedience. Parker's Animal Rescue strives to rescue, foster and find permanent loving homes for abandoned dogs and puppies in La Plata County and the rural Four Corners. The overriding principles of the organization are 1) to educate the public on the importance of spay and neutering, and 2) educate pet owners on the proper stewardship and training of animals. 🐾 ADOPTION SUNDAY! 🐾

Three more happy endings to celebrate this week! 🎉❤️ Please join us in congratulating Deli, Liam, and Dolly, who have officially joined their forever families!

And this week's adoptions came with an extra special surprise… a FOSTER FAIL! 🥹❤️

Sweet Deli, the last of our little Sandwich Litter, officially stole the hearts of her fosters, Annie and Seth, who decided they simply couldn't let her go! After welcoming her into their home, caring for her, and watching her little personality blossom, they realized she was already exactly where she belonged. Congratulations to the whole family!

We're equally thrilled for Liam and Dolly, who have each found wonderful families to call their own! There's nothing quite like watching our rescue pups get their happily-ever-afters, and we're so excited for all the love, adventures, and memories ahead of them. 🥰

🎃👻 HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 👻🎃

While most puppies are out looking for treats, adoptable Koa has apparently decided to raise the dead. 💀🐾

His foster family worked hard on their spooky graveyard display, but Koa seems to think they went through all that trouble just to give him a yard full of giant chew toys.

Skeletons? Not scary. Tombstones? Unimpressive. Bones scattered across the lawn? BEST. HALLOWEEN. EVER.

🐾 FOSTER FEATURE FRIDAY 🐾

Meet Kyra and Mike, whose foster journey actually began 10 years ago, back when we were still known as Lisa Parker's Puppies (LPP)!

After spending some time away from the area, they're back in Durango and have jumped right back into helping dogs in need. We couldn't be happier to welcome them back to the PAR foster family!

When we asked Kyra what inspired them to foster and what she loves about being part of PAR, she shared, "We first fostered 10 years ago when it was still LPP! Now we are back in the area and happy to be helping Lisa and the PAR team again. It's great to be able to help a dog in need out while not committing to a full time dog of our own!"

And that's one of the things we love most about fostering! You don't have to be ready for a lifelong commitment to make a lifelong difference in an animal's life. Fostering gives dogs a safe, loving place to land while they wait for their forever families, and it gives people like Kyra and Mike the opportunity to enjoy the companionship of a dog while making a meaningful impact.

MEET OUR NEWEST LITTLE BRANCHES OF THE PAR FAMILY! 🐾🌳

We just welcomed six precious puppies transferred from our friends at La Plata County Humane Society, and we think it's safe to say they're about to *leaf* a lasting impression on everyone they meet! 🍃

🌲 Pondo, Juniper, Cherry, Koa, Chestnut, and Sequoia 🌲

These six cuties are approximately 11 weeks old, with three boys and three girls representing TWO different litters! They're currently settling into their foster homes, getting comfortable with their new surroundings, and showing us little glimpses of their personalities. We'll have plenty more to share about each of them as we get to know them better!

🤍 One special thing to know about Cherry: Our beautiful, all-white girl is deaf! She experiences the world a little differently than her siblings, but she's every bit as deserving of a loving family. We're excited to watch her blossom!

💛 HAVE YOU MET JOYFUL? 💛

2 Years Old | 35lbs | Please share!!

🎓 Joyful has graduated our Basic Manners class — and this incredibly smart, energetic girl is ready to put everything she’s learned to use with her future family!

Joyful truly lives up to her name. She approaches life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and an infectious excitement for whatever comes next. Her current foster describes her as being “stoked literally all day every day,” and once you get to know her, it’s easy to see why Joyful is such a fitting name.

If you’re looking for an exercise buddy, Joyful is more than ready to fill the position. She absolutely loves to run and does especially well keeping pace while running on leash. Walks, play sessions, exploring new places, and staying active are right up her alley. Once she’s gotten her energy out, though, Joyful has perfected the art of relaxation: she loves sunbathing in the yard, lounging on the back porch, curling up on the couch, and showing off what her foster calls a “perfect sploot.”

Joyful is also exceptionally smart. She solves puzzle games quickly, picks up new commands with ease, and is curious about everything happening around her. She knows “sit,” has been working on “wait,” responds well to redirection, and is wonderfully patient waiting for her meals. She’s also treat-motivated, which makes continued training and mental enrichment especially rewarding.

Around the house, Joyful has been doing beautifully. Give her a toy bin and she’ll happily investigate the entire collection — balls, soft toys, chewies, tug toys… Joyful isn’t particularly picky! Tug-of-war and a little game of fetch are favorites.

As much as Joyful loves being busy, what she really loves is being with her people. She’s very social when meeting new humans, enjoys being out and about, and becomes especially cuddly when she’s tired in the evening. Her happiest place is simply wherever her person happens to be.

Joyful would thrive with an active person or couple who wants a dog to truly be part of their life. She needs someone who appreciates both sides of her: the energetic athlete who wants to run, play, learn, and explore, and the affectionate girl who wants nothing more than to curl up close to you at the end of the day.

Joyful has so much to offer. She’s bright, athletic, affectionate, endlessly entertaining, and eager to keep learning. She isn’t looking for someone to simply give her a home — she’s looking for a teammate.

🧡 Teaching Tuesday 🧡

As hunting season arrives, so does the need for extra caution when hiking or exploring with your dog. A high-visibility safety vest is one of the simplest ways to protect your furry friend in areas where hunters might be nearby.

Brightly colored vests, often in neon orange or yellow, make it easier for hunters and other hikers to spot your dog, reducing the risk of misidentification in thick woods or fields. Many vests are also designed with reflective strips, providing visibility during early mornings or late evenings, which are common times for both hikes and hunting activity. Along with helping to prevent accidents, these vests offer some protection from rough brush, thorns, and branches, which can help prevent scratches and minor injuries as your dog explores. This also makes it easier for you to spot your dog at a distance in dense or low-visibility areas, giving you extra peace of mind if they like to roam ahead on the trail.

To get the best results, make sure the vest fits snugly but comfortably, allowing your dog freedom of movement. Pair it with a collar that has your updated contact information in case of separation, and consider vests that have reflective strips for more visibility.

Today, we welcomed four adorable puppies into PAR's care after transferring them from our friends at La Plata County Humane Society! And, as you can probably imagine, we're already pretty smitten. 🥰

But here's where we need YOUR help! These four little ones are currently looking for FOSTER HOMES or foster-to-adopt families where they can settle in, grow, learn, and experience all the good things that come with being a loved puppy.
