💙Foster Feature Friday 💙

This week, we’re honored to feature Irene, who is currently fostering adoptable Mattie and doing so with so much heart, honesty, and intention.

When we asked Irene what motivated her to start fostering with PAR, she shared:

“I’ve actually fostered before for Lisa years ago, but I recently lost my own little girl Sunshine, who was 15 years old and she died in my arms a couple days before Thanksgiving — very, very sad and traumatic. But little Mattie is helping me keep my heart open and healing, so it was for selfish reasons, to draw on the therapy that these little pups give so lovingly, I guess. I needed help healing from the loss. So now I just want to prepare Mattie and other adoptable dogs for success with their new forever homes.”

And if you’ve seen Mattie lately — especially during cozy couch cuddle time like the photo here 🐾💙 — you can see just how much she’s thriving in Irene’s care.

Fostering saves lives in more ways than one. Sometimes it’s about giving a dog a safe place to land. Sometimes it’s about helping a human heart heal, too. Irene, thank you for opening your home and your heart when it mattered most.

🩷 MEET SPARROW 🩷

This sweet 11-month-old girl is already stealing hearts. Sparrow sits beautifully for treats, loves to learn, and is picking up new skills faster than we can keep track of. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, enjoys being around kiddos, and has such an easy, eager-to-please personality.

If you’re interested in meeting Sparrow to see if it’s a good match, we start all inquiry processes with an adoption application! Get started by clicking the link in our bio or visiting https://parkersanimalrescue.com/forms.

🚨 FOSTER NEEDED ASAP (No kitties, please!) 🚨

Sweet Clara was one of the pups transferred to PAR yesterday, and we’ve now learned she needs a foster home without cats. 😊 She’s had a hard life down in Houston and is still decompressing — what she needs most right now is a calm, safe place to land while she waits for her forever home.

Clara is not asking for much. Just a couch, a warm bed, and love. 💙 No kitties, please.

If you’re able to open your home to Clara — even temporarily — you’d be making a life-changing difference for her.

📞 Call or text (970) 769-2584 today if you can foster or want more info!!

Please share to help us find Clara the soft landing she deserves.

Today was a big, beautiful reminder of what community can do. 💙🐾

We’re thrilled to share that four dogs safely arrived in Durango today from Houston, thanks to an incredible chain of people who made this life-saving transport possible. From our rescue partners on the ground, to the drivers who gave their time, to everyone behind the scenes coordinating logistics — this success belongs to all of you.

Each of these pups represents a second chance. A chance at safety, care, and ultimately a loving home. Seeing them arrive — tired, curious, and so ready for what’s next — is why we do this work.

If you want to meet our new arrivals, incoming pups, and the dogs who have been patiently waiting with us, you can learn more about all of our adoptables on our website (link in bio or https://parkersanimalrescue.com/adopt).

And we’re not done yet — one more intake is happening next Wednesday, bringing even more dogs to safety. Thank you for being part of the village that makes moments like today possible. 💙

🎄✨ All Poppy wants for Christmas… is you. ✨🎄

Some dogs ask Santa for toys.
Some wish for treats or a cozy bed by the fire.

Poppy’s wish is simpler — and bigger than all of that.
She’s wishing for a family.

For over a year now, Poppy has been waiting patiently while the seasons change around her. She’s watched other dogs pack their bags and head home, and each time she’s stayed behind, tail wagging, heart open, still believing her turn will come.

And honestly? We believe it too.

Poppy is magic in dog form. She’s soft-hearted and silly, deeply affectionate, and so incredibly earnest. She wants to be near her people, learning, trying, loving with her whole self. She’s the kind of dog who leans into you just a little harder, like she’s grounding herself in the moment — and in you.

Her foster home has given her safety, structure, and so much love, and Poppy has blossomed there. But she’s ready for the next chapter. She’s ready for traditions, morning routines, quiet nights, and being someone’s forever.

As lights go up and calendars fill with holiday plans, we can’t help but think how perfect Poppy would be in a home of her own — curled up nearby, soaking in the warmth, finally knowing she belongs.

If you’re hoping this season brings connection, comfort, laughter, and unconditional love… Poppy has all of that waiting for you.

Let’s make this the holiday her wish comes true.
Let’s make sure Poppy doesn’t have to wait another year.

Interested in meeting Poppy? We begin all inquiries with an adoption application. Get started via the link in our bio or visit https://parkersanimalrescue.com/forms

PLEASE SHARE — her person might be one share away.

🐾 Teaching Tuesday 🐾

“Spot, sit! Sit! SIT! SPOT, SIT!!”

Sound familiar? 😅

This is something we like to call "command nagging" — and it’s something to avoid during training. When we repeat a command over and over without giving a dog time to respond, it can actually create confusion instead of clarity. Dogs learn best when one clear cue is paired with one clear action. If they hear the same word five times in a row, they’re left wondering which one actually matters.

Over time, command nagging can make training frustrating for both you and your dog. The cue starts to lose meaning, and your dog may tune out or feel stressed instead of engaged.

A better approach? Keep it simple and positive. Use clear, one-word commands, give your dog a moment to process and respond, and reward them when they do it right. Short, focused training sessions go a long way — and they help build trust, confidence, and a stronger bond between you and your pup. 💙

Tomorrow, we welcome four more pups to PAR as part of our second (of three!) intakes this month from our incredible rescue partners in Houston. 🐾

Two adorable puppies. Two deserving adult dogs. All four on their way toward safety, stability, and a real chance at the lives they deserve.

These arrivals are only possible because of the quiet, behind-the-scenes work that keeps rescue moving forward every single day — transport coordination, medical care, foster support, food, supplies, staff time, and the countless details most people never see. This is the work your generosity fuels.

As we move into the final weeks of the year, our End-of-Year Campaign helps ensure PAR can keep saying yes in 2026 — to dogs like these, to lifesaving partnerships, and to the long road of care that follows the moment they step off the van.

Thank you for believing in this work, for showing up when it matters, and for being part of the reason these four are getting their second chance. 💙

If you’re able to support our year-end campaign, your gift today helps carry this mission into the year ahead.

❤️ MEET ELLE ❤️

3 years old | 64lbs

Meet Elle, a joyful, affectionate girl with a big heart and an even bigger love of life. Elle is full of enthusiasm, greeting each day with pure happiness. Her foster lovingly describes her as a “love gremlin” in the mornings, always ready to shower her people with affection and start the day on a positive note.

Elle is incredibly friendly and gentle, with a naturally sweet disposition. She does wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys playful romps, easily matching energy with canine friends before settling in to rest. She is also great with kids and does well with all kinds of people, showing calm, appropriate manners and a genuine love for human connection. Whether she’s out on a walk or relaxing at home, Elle is happiest when she’s near her people.

In the home, Elle shows great house manners and is learning quickly with structure and guidance. She enjoys walks, enrichment toys, puzzle games, and special treats. She’s handled busy environments well, including downtown walks, lots of people, and barking dogs, and takes it all in stride. She’s eager to please and very receptive.

Elle is sweet, social, and endlessly lovable, with unbelievably soft fur and a gentle nature to match. She’s looking for a home that will give her companionship, activity, and continued guidance, and in return she’ll offer loyalty, affection, and a whole lot of love.

If you’re interested in meeting Elle to see if it’s a good match, we start all inquiry processes with an adoption application! Get started by clicking the link in our bio or visiting https://parkersanimalrescue.com/forms.

Our Story

LPP strives to place puppies in the correct home after having them in loving foster homes where they are crate trained, work on house training, and taught basic obedience. LPP follows up with post adoption training classes or a private session with one of our teachers. We recognize the importance of this teaching and post adoption support rather than just passing them on. Continuing their education and supporting adopters is key to our goals. Lisa Parker’s Puppies strives to rescue, foster and find permanent loving homes for abandoned dogs and puppies in La Plata County and the rural Four Corners. The overriding principals of the organization are 1) to educate the public on the importance of spay and neutering, and 2) educate pet owners on the proper stewardship and training of animals.
