We finished the new pig birthing area and moved Buttercup over. She's due between now and the end of next week. I hope this set-up is better so that she's more successful and we have a better first time mom experience. We are giving Bacon a second chance and she is due the end of March.

Social media influencers make homesteading look glamorous, easy and fun! With their cute Laura Ingles Wilder outfits, stylish chicken coops, sour dough bread, everything in perfect order.

It can be all of those things, but reality is homesteading is hard. Today, has been one of those hard days! Go backwards to yesterday when our female goats busted the gate, broke into the barn and ate nearly a 50lb sack of chicken feed. We noticed them obviously a little fatter than normal, but no red flags of bloat. Well, fast forward to today.... 3 dead goats and several we have been monitoring closely.

The biggest blow to from today, the 3 that died are my 2 year olds. This would have been their first kidding. Their genetics are stellar and I was so excited to see udder production and confirmation.

So when you see these cute videos on social media convincing you that homesteading is glamorous remember posts like this. Posts that show that yes, homesteading is rewarding but not always glamorous! It will try you to the very core. It will break you, you will cry, want to give up, but you won't! You will persevere and will learn something. Don't give up! It will get better... But today I will cry.

What a beautiful sunrise yesterday. It always amazes me how the geese can play in water, lay in the snow and not be frozen! Haha they have a wonderful strawed hut, do they use it?! Nope! Have a wonderful Wednesday.

The piglets are ready for a new farm. Mom is old spot Yorkshire and dad is old spot red waddle. They are 7 weeks old, fed non GMO feed and are hot wired trained. 1 female and 1 castrated male. Located in Dowling MI Price in Comments.

We got our only male piglet castrated this morning. We will have a male and a female available in a few weeks. Mom is an old Spot/Yorkshire and dad is an Old Spot/Red Waddle. They are growing really nice!! I'm going to get pictures of Mom and Dad later today.

My favorite harvest of the garden! Popcorn 🍿🍿🍿🍿🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 If you haven't grown it, you should. It's so much better than anything you can buy at the store.

The piglets are getting big. 4 weeks old already!

Bacon had a rough first time delivery. One of the piglets was stuck and she unfortunately didn't handle the pain well. Out of a litter of 8, we have these 2 little cuties! They are doing well and will be a week old tomorrow. They are old spot/ red waddle mix. Excited to see how they grow.
