The best way to protect your pet against periodontal disease is to brush teeth daily! 🦷

Start slow when introducing pet-friendly toothpaste and a toothbrush. Start by using your finger, then slowly introduce the toothbrush. Don't hesitate to take a break and come back to brushing later. Make sure to have a tasty reward ready when you're finished!

February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month! 🐾

Spaying and neutering your pets is very important. Not only does it reduce overpopulation, but it can increase their lifespan up to 3-5 years! Spaying and neutering lowers the risk of certain cancers and eliminates the potential for life-threatening conditions such as pyometra (uterine infection) in females. It also reduces behaviors such as roaming, spraying or marking, and some types of aggression.

February is Pet Dental Health Month! 🦷

The most common disease in our pets is periodontal disease! Below are signs your pet may have dental disease. It's more than just smelly breath! Severe dental disease can be associated with changes in major organs, such as the heart, liver, and kidney. The only effective treatment for dental disease is a dental prophy (cleaning) under general anesthesia.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, there will be more chocolate treats and flowers around homes than usual, which can pose a threat to our pets. Many flowers are toxic to dogs and cats, such as Lillies, Foxgloves, Daffodils and Tulips. The list goes on. We urge you to research what flowers are safe for your pets, especially if you have them around your house.

Many of us are aware that chocolate is toxic to dogs, however it's also toxic to cats. Chocolate contains the ingredients caffeine and theobromine, both of which are harmful to cats. In large amounts, it can cause death.

It's Pet Dental Health Month! 🦷

Did you know? Dogs have more adult teeth than humans. Ten more to be exact! Cats run just short at 30 adult teeth. With that many teeth, there are a lot of potential problems! As our pets grow, they should lose all of their deciduous teeth, and the adult teeth should replace them. Sometimes, especially in smaller dogs, the deciduous teeth do not fall out. This can cause alignment issues as the adult teeth start to erupt. Some dogs and cats have adult teeth that don't form or don't erupt through the gums. This can cause harm to the jaw or nearby teeth. This is why it's so important to make regular visits to the vet as your pet is growing, as many issues can arise as they age!

Winter is upon us, but ticks are alive and well! Ticks are still active and in search of a blood meal at temperatures down to freezing. This puts you and your pet at risk for tick borne diseases, including Lyme Disease! It's forecasted that the infection rate of Lyme Disease this month will be high, and it will be higher in comparison to past years. Make sure to protect your pets with year-round tick control!

Shepherd/Aussie mix, 15 months old, 45lbs, has already had 2 litters of pups. Sweet and a bit shy at first, but this girl will become your best friend in a matter of minutes! She is dog and cat friendly, likes to ride in the car, crates well, is learning basic commands, appears housebroke.
