MYTH: My pet doesn't go into the woods, so they can't pick up ticks that transmit Lyme Disease.
TRUTH: Your pet can pick up ticks, even in your own backyard!

Lyme Disease is spread through the deer (black-legged) tick, which mostly feed on deer. Mice, chipmunks, and other small critters are good hosts for transmitting the bacteria that causes Lyme Disease. That means Lyme infected ticks can be carried into your own backyard by small critters, and even birds! Even if your pet only goes outside to potty, they still require year-round tick control!

Yesterday was National Black Cat Appreciation Day! 🐱🖤

Unfortunately, superstitions have real-world consequences. In shelters, black cats have to wait much longer for adoption than felines of other colors – a fate they share with other shelter animals with black coats, such as dogs. Black coated pets are just as friendly and loving as those of other colors!

Microchips are a form of permanent identification that can not be lost, unlike ID tags. It's important to make sure all contact information associated with the microchip is current. If your pet runs away and is found, the contact info needs to be correct or they may not make it home! Make sure to have all contact information on your pet's ID tags updated also!

Make sure to check your pet for ticks after every trip outside! There are many different types of ticks. Every tick carries different tick borne diseases. Deer ticks are the only ones known to carry Lyme Disease, but also carry other tick borne diseases. The faster you remove an attached tick, the less of a chance they will transmit tick borne diseases to your pet!
