It’s expected to hit over 100° today in the Hudson Valley. One of our AC heads went down last night, of course. The joys of homeownership! We will be just fine but we are making every effort to keep things cool by closing curtains and blinds. Every hot day, when I close the curtains, the dogs treat the bow window in the kitchen like it’s their private VIP room. 🤣 When I come upstairs from outside they pop their heads out looking like teenage stage hands in a high school drama production, and then return to their little sunroom.

Genetics again, to answer a good question. Yes the Dobermans definitely have an “off switch,” and the labradors have an “on switch!”

Rainy day? After dark? Sunday mornings? The Dobermans know nothing’s going on, they’ll burrow in their bedding and rest.

Put on my hunting or training gear for field work? The Labradors lose their minds, pretty much. My Labs work on a shooting preserve, and get to tap into their genetic desires and drives regularly. They are super impressive, if I’m being honest!

So, yes to your question!

Something I heard say this afternoon during my workout was “the secret to your future is hidden in your daily routine” and it really stuck with me today, so I thought I would borrow it from him. Structuring daily routines around future goals, for myself, my dogs, and my clients is something I work on every day; looking for that little percentage of improvement each day. Learning, training, fitness, rest, and social time are important to build into the day for both dogs and their humans. Just keep striving for more of what you want the future to look like, and keep going despite bumps in the road, is something I will make even more of a point to remember every day.

~ Drake and Campbell as puppies. I’ve got puppies on the brain as we’ve got an ultrasound coming up next week to determine if a long awaited breeding was successful. We are hoping for puppies here this spring!

Training out and about at in Patterson today! Rainy day means we have to think outside the box for distractions and today being a vet clinic day at TSC meant TONS of dog distractions which Nala has struggled with in the past. I’m happy to say she did wonderfully. We will be on the road all week proofing our work.
