🐾 Meet Jaxson! 🐾
Jaxson is an 8-month-old Lab mix with a big smile, a wagging tail, and a love for life. This happy-go-lucky pup is always ready for fun and would thrive in an active home that enjoys spending time outdoors.
Jaxson loves running around the yard, playing with other friendly dogs, collecting treats, and soaking up all the attention he can get from his favorite humans. He's the kind of dog who brings joy wherever he goes and is always up for the next adventure.
Like any young dog, Jaxson is still learning his manners and would benefit from a family willing to continue his training and help him grow into the best version of himself. The good news? He's smart, eager to learn, and already pretty amazing.
If you're looking for a playful, loving companion to join your family, Jaxson may be the perfect fit. Come meet him and see why everyone falls in love with this handsome boy! 💛🐶https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/BAS-A-135509

💔 URGENT: FOSTER, ADOPTER, OR RESCUE NEEDED 💔

Today was a very difficult day for two little dogs.

Meet April and Chaya.

April is 12 years old and weighs 17 pounds.

Chaya is 14 years old and weighs just 10 pounds.

Neither of them expected their world to change today.

Their owner is nearing the end of his life and made the heartbreaking decision to ensure his beloved companions would be safe when he could no longer care for them.

This was not an easy day for anyone involved.

Like many senior pets, April and Chaya have clearly faced some challenges recently. What we do know is that when their owner realized he could no longer provide the care they needed, he made one final act of love.

He asked for help.

Now these two little ladies are beginning a new chapter they never saw coming.

The shelter can be a frightening place for senior dogs who have spent years living in a home. New sounds. New smells. New people. New routines.

Everything they know has changed.

We are urgently seeking a foster home, adopter, or rescue partner willing to help them through this transition.

The good news?

❤️ Both girls are heartworm negative.

❤️ Both are small dogs.

❤️ Both deserve the chance to spend their golden years in comfort and safety.

Right now, they don't need perfection.

They don't need a mansion.

They don't need someone who can promise forever today.

They simply need someone willing to help.

A quiet home.

A soft bed.

A gentle hand.

A chance to decompress and understand that they are safe.

We know our village.

We know there are people who have a special place in their hearts for senior dogs.

We know there are rescue partners who understand that some of the most rewarding journeys begin with the oldest dogs.

Tonight, two little girls are missing everything familiar.

Let's show them that even in the middle of heartbreak, they are still surrounded by kindness.

If you can foster, adopt, or if you are a rescue organization that may be able to assist, please contact Nina 713-876-5838/ [email protected]

❤️ April – 12 years old, 17 pounds

❤️ Chaya – 14 years old, 10 pounds

❤️ Both heartworm negative

Please share. Their next chapter may depend on it.

🐾 TAKE A DOG ON A SNIFFARI 🐾

What if one walk could change a life?

Every weekend, our Sniffari volunteers take shelter dogs out of their kennels and into the world.

They explore new smells.
They practice their leash skills.
They build confidence.
They burn off energy.
They learn to trust.

Most importantly, they get a chance to simply be a dog.

For many of our shelter pets, Sniffari is the highlight of their week.

A walk tells us things we can't learn from inside a kennel. We discover who loves car rides, who enjoys meeting new people, who would rather sit quietly in the grass, and who is ready for an adventure. These observations help us make better matches with adopters, fosters, and rescue partners.

But Sniffari isn't just helping the dogs.

It's helping people too.

There is something special about spending an hour with a shelter dog who is just grateful to be by your side. No emails. No deadlines. No distractions. Just fresh air, wagging tails, and the simple joy of making a difference.

Whether you're an experienced volunteer or simply someone who loves dogs, we'd love to have you join us.

We are currently looking for additional Sniffari volunteers on Saturdays and Sundays.

🐾 Walk dogs
🐾 Help them shine
🐾 Learn their personalities
🐾 Become part of a team that is changing lives every day

Some volunteers join because they love dogs.

Most stay because they fall in love with the mission.

Questions? Give us a call at 281-337-3117 and we'll be happy to help.

Fair warning: You may end up with muddy shoes, a full heart, and a few favorite dogs.

And don't be surprised if one of those favorite dogs finds their forever home because of a walk you took, a photo you shared, or a story you told.

That's the power of Sniffari. ❤️

🐾 HAPPY TAILS, LEGEND! 🐾

Some stories don't start the way they should.

We received a call about a dog—possibly even a coyote—wandering on the outskirts of town. When our team arrived, we found a handsome boy who looked a little wolfish but acted like an old friend from the very beginning.

We named him Legend.

Legend was sweet, friendly, and thankfully, microchipped. We were excited when we discovered the chip because it meant we might be able to reunite him with his family.

We called.

And called.

And called some more.

But no one ever answered.

As the days passed, we were left to assume that this gentle boy had been abandoned in a wooded area and left to fend for himself.

It would have been easy for Legend to lose trust in people.

But dogs have an incredible way of moving forward. They don't dwell on the past. They don't hold grudges. They simply keep loving.

And Legend did exactly that.

He greeted everyone with a wagging tail, made friends wherever he went, and reminded us all how resilient dogs can be.

Today, Legend's story got the ending he deserved.

He was adopted into a loving home with both human siblings and dog siblings to share his adventures with. 🏡❤️

The lonely dog found wandering in the woods is now sleeping in a home where he is wanted, loved, and part of a family.

That sounds like a pretty legendary ending to us.

Happy Tails, Legend. We can't wait to watch your next chapter unfold. 💙

🐾 Kitten Socializers Needed! 🐾
We've had an influx of kittens arrive at the shelter this week, and some of them have never had much interaction with people before. Right now, they need kind, patient humans to help show them that the world isn't such a scary place.

If you have some free time, we'd love for you to fill out a volunteer application and come spend time with our kittens. Simply sitting with them, offering treats, playing, and helping them get comfortable around people can make a huge difference in their future.

Want to make an even bigger impact? Consider fostering a kitten for a few days or a few weeks. Bringing a kitten into a home environment helps them learn that humans are safe, couches are comfy, and getting loved on is pretty great. 💛
Foster application: https://www.bayouanimalservices.org/foster
We provide support and guidance along the way—all you have to do is bring the patience and love.

Help us turn scared kittens into confident, adoptable companions. Apply to volunteer or foster today! 🐱✨ Ages 14–15: Must volunteer with a parent or guardian
Ages 16+: Welcome to volunteer independentlyhttps://www.bayouanimalservices.org/volunteer

*these kittens are not available for adoption just yet, but view out other adoptable cats on our website: https://www.bayouanimalservices.org/adoptable-cats

🐾 Wildlife Wednesday

Feeding Isn't a Plan.

Management Is.

Most people who put food out for outdoor cats do so because they care.

They see a hungry cat and want to help.

Unfortunately, food without responsibility often creates more suffering than solutions.

A bowl of food left outside doesn't just attract cats. It attracts wildlife like raccoons, skunks, rats, and other animals looking for an easy meal. These animals can spread disease, compete for resources, and create conflicts throughout the neighborhood.
For cats, the consequences can be heartbreaking.

When cats are fed but not spayed or neutered, colonies grow quickly. What starts as a few cats can become dozens in a short period of time. More cats means more kittens born outdoors, more disease, more injuries, more competition for food, and ultimately more suffering.

At Bayou Animal Services, we believe the answer isn't to stop caring.

The answer is to care responsibly.

Responsible colony caretakers:
✔️ Spay and neuter cats to prevent endless litters
✔️ Vaccinate for rabies
✔️ Monitor for illness and injury
✔️ Remove friendly cats and kittens so they can find loving homes
✔️ Work with animal services to reduce future suffering

Every community cat that enters our program receives spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, and veterinary care. Friendly cats are given the opportunity to become family pets. Truly feral cats are returned to their colony healthier and unable to contribute to overpopulation.

The goal isn't simply feeding cats today.
The goal is making sure fewer cats suffer tomorrow.
If you are feeding community cats in Dickinson and would like help becoming part of the solution, contact Bayou Animal Services. We have resources available and can help guide you through responsible colony management.
