I took 12 hours to write this post so I would calm down. I will also be sharing it with the 1400 people I have on my Facebook and Instagram and Twitter. Yesterday my 15 year old son and I pulled up to pick up our dog from being boarded last week at The Barking Dog in Derry, NH. My son and I were watching the dogs in the play area and he asked if Bauer was out there and I said no and we continued to watch the dogs. We then saw a man (couldn't tell who it was at the time because of a tree blocking the upper half of this person) walk over to a medium sized dog that was just sitting in the corner, put his hand on this little dogs neck, shove him to the ground and then take both of his hands and push 1, 2, 3 times on the side of the dog- HARD. My son looked at me and said "Mom! Did you just see that?" I said "Oh my God! Yes!" and my son said "You need to go and tell someone what we just saw!" This is coming from my 15 year old who NEVER wants me to "get involved" with things..... I immediately went inside and spoke to the lovely girl at the desk and I told her we needed to find out who was out there with the dogs. We went outside and around to the daycare door, which had been closed before now, and a girl opened it and we asked her who was outside with the dogs and she said "Mike." The girl behind the counter and I went back into the boarding area and I told her exactly what I had seen and she started to get tears in her eyes. Next thing I know, Mike is coming into the boarding area and is raising his voice to me, yelling that "I don't know what they deal with there and that the dogs are aggressive.... " I said "That was abusive what you just did. You pushed that dog, who was not doing ANYTHING to the ground and then pushed HARD, HARD, HARD on his side because you were mad at something and that is NOT okay" and he said "You have no idea what we deal with here....." at that point I told him to leave me alone and I would be reporting him. I called the corporate office and spoke with Steph Workinger and she said she was going to drive to the Derry location and this was grounds for termination. Come to find out, Mike has been reported before for "man-handling" the dogs there and Steph Workinger- the Corporate Manager- never went to the Derry location and hours later Mike was still working. I will NEVER bring Bauer there again after what I witnessed. Sadly, Bauer cowered one day when I brought him in and MIke was working. We opened the door and when Bauer saw Mike he retreated back out the door. I brought Bauer back inside (now I feel HORRIBLE about that decision) and I even said something to Mike about it. Mike assured me that everything was fine. I have known other people who's dogs started to act strangely after being "taken care of" there and have since left to other daycare's and now I know why. This is also explains why they have a 2 star rating on-line. My heart is sick about what we witnessed and I'm so sorry for the owners of that poor dog. He was a medium sized brown and white dog, he looked like a Springer Spaniel and he wasn't doing a single thing. He was just sitting there. We were watching him. He didn't deserve that and it was abuse. This is a warning. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOGS HERE. I will be following up with the Management today and also calling the State so they are investigated.
Thank you ! Darlene for doing a great job grooming Snuggle today.
