A new law went into effect in Colorado today that protects pets from exploitation by backyard breeders and we couldn’t be happier! As of August 6, it’s now illegal to sell, give away, offer, or advertise a pet in public spaces like streets, parking lots, parks, and outdoor markets. (Unless you’re a licensed organization, like us.)

This targets backyard breeders’ primary sales locations AND their methods of sales. It’s a major step in the right direction. Here’s to protecting the animals we love so much!

Kerrigan! 💙

Say hello to Kerrigan, a 7-month-old shepherd mix who’s melting hearts one cuddle at a time! With his soft coat, soulful eyes, and that irresistible puppy breath (yes, it’s still going strong!), Kerrigan is the kind of pup who makes you fall in love instantly.

Kerrigan is a gentle soul who thrives on routine, encouragement, and love. He’s currently building his confidence and learning the ropes of the big wide world with the help of consistent positive reinforcement—and he’s making amazing progress! Every day, he grows a little more sure of himself, especially on leash, where he’s learning to walk like a pro.

He’s incredibly friendly and gets along beautifully with everyone—kids, adults, and fellow dogs alike. Whether it’s snuggling on the couch, going for a stroll, or playing in the yard, Kerrigan is happiest when he’s by your side.

If you’re looking for a kind-hearted, affectionate pup who’s ready to grow up with you and be your loyal companion, Kerrigan might just be your perfect match.

Forever A Friend of Jack Friday 🐾🩷

“I adopted Peach (formerly Sweet Potato Pie) in March of 2022. When the time was right, I knew I wanted to go through a Friend of Jack to find my furever friend. I had followed AFOJ for a while and fell in love with many of their dogs and their process. They helped match me with a dog that fit my life perfectly, and it was love at first sight with Peach. Her foster family had done an amazing job training her at just a few months old, and when I found out they had been calling her Peach, it was a done deal. I am from Georgia and knew this was a sign!

Peach is the perfect dog. She is sweet, silly, and equally loves to run around and herd dogs as much as she loves to lounge on the couch. She is a belly rub queen and loves every human she meets. She is a little timid but always warms up to other dogs, and she has gained so much confidence over the years through training and by going to agility classes! I am so grateful to AFOJ and my life wouldn’t be the same without my best friend.”

TAKE ME HOME TUESDAY is presented to you by…

Hi there! I’m Lily 🐾

…but you can also call me Lovebug, Snuggle Queen,or Fluffy Potato — I answer to anything if there’s a treat involved 🍖😉

My friends say I’m probably an Anatolian Shepherd mix (heinz 57??), which is just a fancy way of saying I’m big, cuddly, and totally convinced I’m a lap dog (yes, even if I’m halfway falling off the couch). If you’ve got a lap, a heart, or a hand for belly rubs — I’m already obsessed with you.

I’m super smart (if I do say so myself) and very treat motivated. I learned “sit” and “shake” in an afternoon — imagine what we could do with a whole weekend together! I’m mostly potty-trained, sleep like an angel through the night, and I walk pretty well on a leash (unless there’s something interesting to sniff... which is, like, everything 🌿👃).

I love meeting other dogs and new people — sometimes I’m a little shy at first, but once I know you’re nice, I’m all in. I’d love a home with someone who wants a loyal, protective best friend. Whether it’s adventures outside or cuddle marathons on the couch, I’m your girl.

So… belly rubs? Treats? Forever love? Swipe right on me. 🐶❤️

Forever A Friend of Jack Friday 🐾🩷

“We adopted C**t fka Davis back in September 2021 after our older dog passed away and our other dog was super lonely. He was about 6 months old and looked like the perfect combo of GSD/heeler that we were looking for. We did a DNA test a few years ago and that’s exactly what he is! 

When we met him, it was love at first sight! We brought him home and it took our other dog, Levi a few days to warm up to C**t who was a crazy puppy and they have been the BEST of friends ever since. They do everything together and we absolutely love him. He is the best boy and loves spending his days running around our 70 acre property with his brother and following me while I ride my horses.”

TAKE ME HOME TUESDAY is presented to you by…

Roo! 🦘

Named for her signature kangaroo-style hops, Roo is a bouncy bundle of joy who loves toys, fetch, and solo play sessions. When she meets new people, she breaks out the full-body wiggle, rolls over for belly rubs, and turns on those irresistible puppy dog eyes.

Roo is quickly winning hearts (and treats!) all over the neighborhood—dogs and humans alike. She’s bravely tackling new challenges like stairs and is making great progress with crate training, sleeping through the night like a champ. Potty training is still a work in progress, but she’s learning fast.

Her top skills? Sitting like a pro and deploying those soulful eyes like a seasoned heart-stealer.
