📣 An Open Letter from Brad Pitt (the REAL one) 📣

Hi, it’s me — Brad Pitt. Not the Hollywood guy. The far cuter, furrier, four-legged original. 🐾

And I have a BONE to pick.

Every time someone hears my name at the shelter, they say:
“Oh, like the movie star?”
“Oh, is he as handsome as the real Brad Pitt?”
“Oh, does he have a mansion?”

UM, excuse me. I am the real Brad Pitt.

✅ I’m devastatingly handsome.
✅ I’ve got soulful eyes that should win awards.
✅ I give out free kisses — no ticket required.
✅ I actually want to spend time with you.

Meanwhile that other Brad Pitt? Zero zoomies. Zero tail wags. Probably not even house-trained.

So if you want to meet a true icon — adopt me. The real Brad Pitt. The one who will love you forever and doesn’t need a stunt double for snuggling.

🐾 Share Your Story: Tater's Tale 🐾

When Marion lost her beloved German Shepherd, Bear, she wasn’t sure if her heart was ready to love again. But just before Thanksgiving, she saw a call to help "Clear the Shelter" for the holiday weekend, and decided to open her home, if only temporarily.

She expected to bring home a big dog... instead, she met Chunk—an older, grouchy, slightly stinky chihuahua who had just been dumped.

"I was sure I’d return him after the weekend," Marion said.

But the little guy, who looked more like a baked potato than a pup, had other plans. Chunk quickly stole her heart and earned a new name fitting his charm: Tater 🥔💛

Today, Tater enjoys a warm heating pad, soft treats (he only has 3 teeth!), and all the love he wants.

This is what second chances look like. This is why we do what we do.

🚨 THIS IS NOT AN URGENT DOG POST. 🚨

(We repeat: No sad eyes, no desperate asks, no "she has till 5pm" this time.)

Just us, popping in to say:

💥**THANK YOU, FOSTERS.**💥

We know this group usually feels like:
“Hey, can anyone grab this terrified dog who just gave birth in a thunderstorm and only trusts raccoons?”

Or

“Sorry to do this again, but we really need someone to foster a 110-lb senior with no teeth and separation anxiety before 3pm.”

Your hearts are pulled in a thousand directions, and we’re always asking for more — more space, more time, more help.

And every time — somehow — you show up.
With your dog-savvy cats, your Houdini-proof crates, your saint-like patience, and your ability to fall in love and let go (again and again and again).

You’ve made your homes a revolving door of second chances.

Your couches are fur-covered therapy stations.
Your hearts? Basically indestructible.

You're the real MVPs, the backbone of rescue, and the reason so many tails get to wag again.

So today, no asks. No urgent pleas. Just a standing ovation.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Thank you.

Thank you for the happy tails and the healed hearts.

Thank you for showing up again and again, even when it’s hard.

This group wouldn’t work without you. These dogs wouldn’t make it without you. And we are so deeply, endlessly grateful for you.

We love you more than the dogs love rotisserie chicken. And that’s saying a LOT. 🐾💛

📢 OFFICIAL RESIGNATION NOTICE 📢
(from your long-stay shelter dogs 🐶💔)

After months of being ridiculously good dogs with zero adoption offers, we — Lucy, Molly, Thelma Lou, Honey, Tom, and George McFly (with Snow White) — are officially resigning from being “adoptable.”

We’ve:
✅ Sat like pros
✅ Wagged until our tails fell off
✅ Perfected the Sad Eyes™
✅ Even wore our best bandanas

But still… no takers.

So we’re done auditioning for love.

We’re not “broken.”

We’re not “less than.”

We are forever dogs — just waiting too long for our forever people.

We’ll be moving on to:

🎤 Hosting our new podcast (Unleashed & Unchosen)

📖 Writing our memoir (Still Good Dogs)

✊ Starting a union: B.A.R.K. (Buddies Awaiting Real Kindness)

But honestly? Deep down? We’re still hoping.

Still waiting.

Still ready to love you like no one else can.

💌 Sincerely,

Lucy, Molly, Thelma Lou, Honey, Tom & George McFly (with Snow White)

We haven’t given up on these dogs, but it seems all people want are fluffy puppies these days. 😞 Help us show these great dogs that they are worthy of LOVE and a home.

Our Executive Director, Jana Cassidy, recently wrote an article for The Delaware Gazette highlighting the growing challenges of pet ownership and the struggle to access affordable veterinary care. These issues often lead to heartbreaking outcomes, including abandoned animals and overwhelmed shelters.

In the article, Jana shares how these issues are harming our community—and what HSDC is doing to help.

“For us, it’s about people, pets, and neighborhoods. That’s been the case for more than 50 years, as we’ve grown and evolved based upon the county’s needs,” said Executive Director Jana Cassidy. “Our most recent cases shed light on how abandoned animals, and the costs of veterinary care can harm our community.”

Thank you to the Delaware Gazette for helping us raise awareness about these critical issues and the work we’re doing to support pets and the people who love them.

Our Respite Care Program provides temporary foster homes for pets whose senior owners are receiving medical care. It’s one of the many ways we work to protect the bond between people and their pets, even through life’s most difficult seasons.

With your support, ARF will allow us to say “yes” to animals in need, create more safe spaces for pets, and offer peace of mind to senior pet owners in crisis.

❤️ More space means more compassion.
🏠 More fosters mean more reunions.
🐶 Every donation helps us keep pets where they belong—with the people who love them.
