💛 HAPPY ENDING: LUCY! 💛

When Lucy (formerly Melinda) first came to us, she was a nervous little dog who needed another dog to help show her the ropes. Then, last October, she met her family—and what was supposed to be a foster turned into a very fast foster-fail! 🥹🐾

With their older dog, Charlie, by her side, Lucy quickly found her confidence. Now, she loves perching on top of the couch to keep watch over the backyard, racing outside to chase away squirrels and bunnies, and charming everyone she meets on neighborhood walks. (Apparently, she’s also the biggest treat mooch you’ve ever seen!)

And she has become a very important part of the family. Her college brothers were even sadder to leave Lucy behind than anyone else—and now they FaceTime her regularly.

Her family says it best:
“I am so thankful to have this little dog in my life! Thank you Humane Society of Delaware County for my daughter!”

Lucy, we are so happy you found your family! We love seeing the nervous dogs who come through our doors blossom into confident, happy companions.

Congratulations, Lucy! You are home. 🏡💛

🐾 Cat-urday: The Power of a Foster Home

Sometimes, all a cat needs is a little time, a quiet place to recover, and someone willing to be their biggest fan. ❤️

Tux had been at HSDC since March, struggling with a stubborn URI that was difficult to clear in the shelter. Once he went into foster, he started feeling so much better—and his foster mom started telling everyone she knew about him!

That extra care + extra visibility helped Tux find his forever home from his foster home just last month!

This is the power of fostering. Our medical cat fosters don’t just help cats get healthy—they help them get noticed. And sometimes, that’s exactly what it takes to get them home. ❤️

🐾 SHELTER MEDICINE SPOTLIGHT: PUGSLEY

Pugsley came to us with mild respiratory symptoms that initially improved with treatment. But shortly after, he became extremely lethargic and weak, stopped eating, developed a fever and anemia, and began experiencing intermittent neurological symptoms. Despite supportive care, he continued to decline.

Our veterinary team suspected Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a serious disease that develops when a common feline coronavirus mutates within an individual cat. Thanks to donated medication from our cat caretakers, Pugsley was able to begin a treatment trial—and thankfully, he’s starting to improve.

His treatment can last 12 weeks, so Pugsley still has a long road ahead, but we’re hopeful for his recovery. ❤️

🐾 HAPPY ENDING: MIRA! 🐾

Formerly known as Dragonfruit, Mira found her forever family in May 2025—and she’s been keeping everyone on their toes ever since! 💕

Mira was adopted as both a companion for her family and for their senior dog, Milo, who had become despondent after losing his beloved “sister,” Mayday, to osteosarcoma.

Today, Mira is a tornado of energy, scary smart, and quite the social butterfly! After coming to HSDC from Kentucky and overcoming parvo with the help of our incredible staff and foster families, she’s grown into a strong, healthy brindle ball of chaos and love.

We’re so happy to see this beautiful girl thriving in her forever home—and even happier that she and Milo found each other. Congratulations, Mira! 🐶💗

💕 Meet Dolly! 💕

If you're looking for a petite little princess to bring some sweetness into your life, 5-year-old Dolly might be your girl. At just 7.4 pounds, she's small enough to fit almost anywhere—but she has plenty of personality to fill a room. 🥰

Dolly is a sweet, gentle girl who enjoys the company of other dogs and absolutely LOVES a soft, round dog bed to curl up in. She's partly housetrained and a fast learner, too!

And yes, she's named after the one and only Dolly Parton. 🎶
We think our Dolly has the same kind of sweetness and charm as her namesake—although she's probably more interested in a cozy bed than working 9 to 5.

Dolly isn't a fan of loud noises or getting too hot, so she's looking for a calm, comfortable home where she can settle in and be the princess she was meant to be.

🐾 Why we serve people best by brining pups to meet you in a private room.

You may have noticed that we don’t allow the public to walk through our dog kennels—and there’s an important reason why. ❤️

Our top priority is the well-being of our shelter animals, and having unfamiliar people walking past their kennels can be stressful for dogs. Even friendly, outgoing dogs can become overwhelmed by the constant activity, noise, and attention.

Instead, we introduce adopters to our available dogs one-on-one in our Treat & Greet Room. During your visit, our staff will bring a dog out to meet you, and introduce them to you in a calmer environment.

This approach helps keep our dogs more comfortable and relaxed, while also giving their personalities a better chance to shine. A dog who may seem nervous or withdrawn in their kennel can be completely different when they have the opportunity to meet someone in a quiet, individual setting.

We know it can be tempting to walk through the kennels and see all of our dogs, but this policy is one of the ways we put their needs first. Thank you for understanding and helping us keep our shelter dogs as happy and stress-free as possible!
