People occasionally ask me, “Doc, why do I need to get my female cat fixed? I’m going to keep her inside so she won’t get pregnant. “

Well, there are many reasons:
1. Between February and October, cats are in heat for 14 out of every 21 days. This is miserable for both cats and humans.
2. Intact Female cats can and will spray to mark territory and call males.
3. There are medical reasons. Cats left to cycle will develop Cystic Endometrial Hyperplasia and/or Pyometra. The first is painful for the cat (gross pictures in comments) the second is life threatening.

So even if you can prevent kittens, having your cat spayed is a necessity.

Despite our best efforts, we have acquired kittens for adoption. None are completely ready to go, but we will take deposits if you want. We have males and females, both long and short hair. Adoption fees include spay or neuter, Feline Leukemia Virus testing (negative), FVRCP and Rabies vaccination, and microchip placement. Give us a call to schedule a time to meet our babies and find your new best friend!!

Tired of the spring shed? Make an appointment with our groomer, Paige for a bath and blow dry! The bath loosens up hair and the blow dry removes it from the coat. Less hair and dander around your home! Helps people with allergies too!

May is National Mental Health Awareness month. We at St. Julian's Cat Care would like to remind all of our friends and family that it is important to take care of your mental health as well as the physical health. So many folks go through life with heavy things on their minds and don't talk about it for fear they will be labled as crazy or worse. DO NOT think that you are not worthy of a great life or you need to struggle alone. Some of these things I post may seem cute but...mental illness is a real thing and it needs to be addressed in many ways. So take a minute or two to think about your mental health or someone you know who is struggling and take time to do something nice. take time to take care of yourself.

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, so we thought we would spread some self care sunshine to those who wish to donate to get some wonderful gifts for yourself or someone special. We will have these available all month long. We are working on some great raffle baskets too, so keep watching for those.
