Day three of asking the lead change question was a success for the little lady! I love to use a pole when introducing the concept to help them re-organize their feet while in the air. The building blocks were there and so just a touch of the leg over the pole got clean changes consistently both ways! It will be fun to refine these and make them pretty someday.

The lady may not be in full time training anymore but she does not forget the job. Shes been a fun project from start to seasoned!

This little mare was lanky, upstarted and hard to catch. After a few months of driving training she greets us in the field ready for the job of the day, works single and double, and has started to build some muscle!

Leo starting to develop a little more sit and sharpness to change off the leg. Once these straighten out a bit, we will be able to talk tempis!
Developing the building blocks of training is such a rewarding pursuit!

The round pen is a great place to teach a horse about manners and respect. This young horse has a hard time respecting space on the ground and gets very reactive. These pictures were taken about 30 minutes apart after a session in the round pen where he is learning to relax and respect pressure. I LOVE to see a horses way of going develop.

Regarless of the discipline you are riding, the goal is to have a relaxed balanced horse who is soft and ready for the job ahead. I am enjoying how intentional you have to be as a rider to train such different disciplines and horses… But a good foundation creates an enjoyable partner either way!

Three months of dressage work is looking good on Leo!
The way a horse develops muscularly can be a telling sign of if they are properly engaging their bodies. Leo is learning to sit and balance in self carriage excellently. Strong and beefy looks good on him!

“What do you have for me today?” is an attitude I have a fond appreciation for.
Its an attitude I pray to surrender to Christ myself and instill in my horses and kids alike. This herd was ready to go this morning!

In addition to developing young horses, I love to tune on seasoned ones. This lady has been so fun to get her mind and body engaging and see her get back to enjoying her job and doing it well!

Now that some of the new horses are started, we get to set up ideal pairs! These two are figuring out how to use their bodies well while staying in stride.
It’s such a fun challenge to figure out how to support both individuals as they need while teaching them to work together.
