From college internships to gaining hands-on vet med experience, our summer volunteers have been an incredible part of the Heartland team. They learned, grew, and helped us so much—and now they’re off to continue their studies. We’ll miss them, but we know the future of vet med is bright! 💙

Meet Isabella! 🐾
This gorgeous 6-year-old black and white long-haired beauty is looking for her forever home. She’s a spayed female, around 15 lbs, and has the sweetest personality—you’ll fall in love with her gentle chirps and meows!
Isabella has been an indoor-only cat, but recently tried to explore outside and had a little adventure under her porch. She picked up some fleas during her outdoor escapade, but she’s been treated and is healing beautifully.

Her current owner, who adopted her during the pandemic, loves her dearly but can no longer give her the care she deserves. She is friendly with other cats, but not a fan of dogs. At her recent visit with us, Isabella was a perfect patient—calm, sweet, and never aggressive.

🐾 This tough kitty has quite the story of survival.
After going missing for nearly two weeks, this outdoor cat returned home with a severely degloved rear paw—the skin, muscle, and tendons were completely torn away, leaving only exposed bone. 💔

Unfortunately, the damage was too extensive to repair, and the best option for comfort and quality of life was to amputate the injured leg.

We’re happy to share that this resilient feline is now home, healing well, and adjusting beautifully to life on three legs. Cats are incredibly adaptable, and this one is already proving that nothing can slow them down! 💪🐱

🦷✨ Check out this amazing before & after dental transformation!

This sweet 16-year-old pup had never had a dental cleaning before. Her teeth were covered in heavy tartar buildup, and she was showing signs of dental disease—which can cause pain, infections, and even affect vital organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys.

Before anesthesia, we performed pre-anesthetic bloodwork to ensure she was healthy enough for the procedure. During her dental cleaning, we ended up needing to remove 9 teeth due to advanced dental disease.

Now she’s recovering comfortably at home, living a healthier life with a much happier (and cleaner!) mouth. 💛

Rabies is here—and it's deadly. 🦇🦝🐶

There have been several confirmed cases of rabies in wildlife and even in a dog around Danville, Kentucky. This disease is 100% fatal once symptoms appear, and it puts both animals and people at risk.

💉 Vaccination is not only the best protection—it’s the law.
In Kentucky, all dogs, cats, and ferrets are legally required to receive a rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age, with boosters given according to the veterinarian’s guidance.

🚨 Heartland Policy Reminder:
To keep everyone safe, any dog, cat, or ferret entering our hospital that is not up to date on their rabies vaccination must receive one at the time of their appointment. This protects your pet, you, our staff, and our community.
