Adoptable near Arkport NY -- Meet Janet aka Carmel 🤩🤩

We had been following a lost dog case from afar for a few days when we were contacted by one of our old neighbors and friend. The dog was showing up pretty close to her house. We helped connect her with Kelly, DOG GONE Trapping & Pet Recovery who had equipment large enough for a Dane, and so the story unfolded. They were able trap the dog (affectionately called Janet) but were left without an ideal space for her to decompress because of a challenging case that the dog control officer for that area is faced with.

We ran some numbers, shifted a few dogs to our Springwater location, and were able to put Janet up in a larger area of our main facility. (These pens were originally designed with our first Dane mix in mind!) As the investigation continued, we learned Janet (aka Carmel) has been tossed around to a few different folks. It became apparent pretty quickly because of holes in the stories that Janet Carmel had been dumped.

Janet Carmel is four years old and as sweet as...well...carmel. She lives for cozy blankets and gentle pets. She walks beautifully on leash although she is cautious in new and open environments. Because of this and a history of escaping that was recounted to us, Janet will need to be with a family that has a hard fenced in yard.

Janet Carmel is not housetrained. We are guessing she spent a lot of time on concrete, perhaps in an outdoor enclosure so she may not understand the concept yet. We will also be requiring a spay/tack. We have been unable to test her yet with kids, cats, and other dogs (although she is not reactive so far).
